has this ever happened to you ? help

The car has been into my garage twice now for a what sounds like a boost leak...................... when she reaches around 15 psi I get a whooshing noise from around the passenger foot well ........ i think, along with this noise i am getting real bad mpg.

Anyway the garage have just rung to say they have had every single turbo pipe off and every single little pipe around the ecu area and cannot find a fault with any of it !!!! but they agree there is a air leak noise at around 15 psi of boost.

So they cannot find the fault and are out of ideas... now i have to go and pick it up with the same fault. none the wiser

have you checked the small bit of pipe inside the ECU that goes to the sensor?

Sounds like the line to the ECU or inside it as Greg says. Do you have a boost guage plumbed in there?

I have boost gauge plumbed in that line , but it still shows 1.4 bar.

robo try opening your window mine is quite loud outside also. i sounds like i have a hole in my intercooler or something but the garage said it wouldnt tick over so well if i had this ?

mine reaches max boost but loads of escaping air noises and no very much power ! and it cannot be found ! !

Have you done a pressure test on the car? If it is that loud you can hear it when driving, you will hear it presurrising the inlet side.

I have had this sound before - and it was a split hose from the turbo it IC - it was an RS2 hose on the car - it split on a small seam and it is not obvious that it leaks - but you can feel it leaking when you put pressure through the intake.

I have exactly the same noise except mine seems to be from the drivers side. Paul N has heard it and it baffled him. My car is home fried and makes about 1.3bar (so it's 0.1 bar down) and has been leak tested and has ALL new hoses (samcos and vacuum pipe) and nothing can be found. Power feels OK and MPG is good on mine. I've had it for about a year now at it really pisses me off.

The only suggestion I have is that it is a cracked EM that is loosing boost at high pressre but the leak is small enough not to dump all the boost. There is definatley a blowing noise when the car is cold so maybe it is the EM? I haven't had time to get it cheked though.

David, when you had your leak, you said that your car could get full boost. Don´t you got overboost protection ?

If I disconnect the turbo to i/c pipe and put a coolant pressure test pump in will this do the same job or will the air that is being pumped in, just blow into the engine breathers ?

Get one of the kits Lee is selling - then you can pressurise the whole lot and find that leak.

IF the garage really has taken all the hoses off to check then they should have found a split hose - but it is a lot easier to test by pressurising all the hoses while on the car.
