    AAN generic chipset.

    Hi all,

I'm a definite imposter on here with a '94 UrS4 avant but I work beside Kevin Smith with the very serious red Ur20v from Fife and you can blame him for telling me about the forum.
I'm looking for a generic chipset for AAN (is that a home fry?) that I can fit myself, Paul and Mihnea would be the obvious choices from reading various threads on here. Anyone else doing them? The car is standard apart from K&N and although it has done 145K it still appears to be in totally rude health, regularly seeing 1.9/2.0 bar on the dash boost gauge. Yeehahh!

Any help tracking down a set of chips would be much appreciated.

    Graeme.

      Thanks JasonS,

Apart from soldering in a couple of DIL sockets, are there any other mods needed in the ECU or is it just plug and play?

You are getting 2 bar ??? It won't be standard then?

Mihnea is over here next week if you want some chips or custom mapping?

I didn't know Kevins second name - I helped him modify his car - welcome to the forum

Pop over to Dougs house next week. We can arrange for your car to be chipped. ECU does need a little work, but nothing we cant sort.

The AAN's have a digital boost display in the dash so 2.0 bar = 1 bar (14.7 psi or there abouts) With ignition on and engine not running they read 1.0 bar. So probably is standard. I know i havnt been on here much in the past 12 months but just thought i would stick my two pennoth in!

Ahh, Kev. You know it's a weight thang! My motor's nearly 1700kg which put's me at a mega disadvantage to you guys with lightweight motors, I've got to do something to even up the odds.

Doug, I could come over next Friday if that's any good? Will it be chipping or mapping and what are the costs involved.

Thanks for making an imposter very welcome guys.

                      S6 Boost Gauge Reading

I get up to 2.2bar showing on my gauge but this is only when "Electronic Overboost via the Wastegate Solenoid has kicked in"

I have read something somewhere, (Scars.org or maybe UrS4.com) that this in normal but I couldn't say for certain if this is the case.

Either way you can feel the overboost coming on, pity my S6 Slipper Wagon has a slushbox.

You can almost see the Fuel Gauge Needle move (I thought it was a some sort of new Rev Counter ) when going out for a razz.

                      Must get some lighter footwear!!

                      Cheers,

                      Dave

Thanks Dave, you've got me worried now. I've never seen 2.2 on the gauge, are there things are I should be checking, or have I just not caned it hard enough. There don't appear to be any boost leaks, it holds tis pressure right past 6k.

When would you normally feel the overboost? I'm not really aware of any great surge in boost, it comes on strong from 2800 and smoothly builds from there.

Its not a problem, im sure one of us can solder in some sockets for the ECU.

Best bet is to chat to Doug about the best time to come round.

                            Overboost Info

                            Graeme,

This is where I read the info on the Overboost -

I see the 2.2bar on the gauge when I use Kickdown (I have Auto Transmission) which usually happens over 4500rpm but the "extra kick in the back" is all over in a split second anyway.

Sounds like you have no real issues apart from maybe having a "Light Foot" ...................But maybe the Overboost isn't as obvious in a Manual 6 Speed?

I used to see 2.2 bar on the digital display at WOT in 5th/6th gears.. Since having my Mihnea chipset, I get 2.4 bar..

The Digital boost gauge is really poor though, I installed an Omori boost gauge in the centre console:

                              It's much better.
