Seems to me in the last couple of years half the Garretts bought and fitted on forum cars have spat their guts out in the first few thousand miles. My perception is their build quality & reliability is crap. Rare you hear that about 20 year old 150k mile KKKs let alone new ones. My 2c
Partially true. If that was the case though all the ones you have heard that blew up would have been refunded and replaced. If that wasn't stated then its likely that they may have been used inappropriately. Quality of parts have stricken all makes. If a kkk turbo is badly rebuilt or with china made parts then you would expect similar results.
Turbochargers are dispensable items when high boost applications are used.
How many rs2 turbos you know lasted 100k kms with 1.9bar of boost dropping to 1.4 ?
If you use a garrett in spec it should last for many years and miles.
Thank you guys for your advice and opinions and i would like to ask for more as i still don't know what will be better ?genuine standard rs2 or hybrid???
Its easy to get chips for a stock rs2 turbo and that will be more than enough for most people.........BUT..... if you can get as andy/rusty says a complete kit or a turbo with a chip then thats an option.
i believe rs2 kkk will outlast a garrett turbo anyday even at 1.9bar boost
that is a statement that cannot be verified unless we do an audit at least of the forum member's experience. You cannot assume the KKK are more robust when the vast amount of S2/RS2 owners keep their car's stock and dont tamper with them.
On the subject though, a down to earth stock rs2 setup is more than enough for most. Dont take my experience as standard as it isnt!
