    Squeel on startup.

I have a stupid question, happend after I changed my cambelt a year ago... everytime a start the car when its cold it squeels for like 10-240 s. depending if its 30 degrees outside or if its -15 degrees outside, and the squeel go away when the car is heated up and this is starting to get on my nerves. Could it be that the cambelt is to tight? the squeel sound every second or so and from what I can think of it sound to come from the cambelt and not the serpentine belt. Is it possible to loose the tensioner witout take out the front of the car and such ?

everything was changed when the cambelt was changed. (belt, tensioner, waterpump, lower sprocket, serpentine belt and also the serpentinebelt tensioner)

I didnt have this issue before the change. But as it was only a few seconds when it was hot outside i didnt bother, but if i don“t use my engine heater and start is now in the winter it squeels for almost 2-3 minutes. sounds like a trashcar

The car is an S6 2.2T (AAN engine)

Yes, it could be that the cam belt is too tight. It is supposed to be tight enough to *just* do a 90 deg twist with normal strength. Perhaps a gorilla did your timing belt?

an too tight timing belt will vibrate creating an vibrating noise at an specific rpm.
i think your problem is at the serpentine belt.
Remove the belt and have a test....i know is not easy...but this will tell you where to look.

I would try squirting some wd40 on your other belts first to see if the noise goes away

In my experience if you tighten the cambelt too much it sounds more like a supercharger, with a continuous whine that changes pitch with rpm. It is easy to overtighten the belt in my experience, done it a few times. The "just 90deg" quoted I find is too tight, almost 180deg by hand is more like correct, for me anyway... the human hand is hardly a calibrated tool.
I wonder if there is a specific torque setting for the belt tensioner on the ABY/AAN/ADU setup, as there is with the alternator belt on our S4's BBK engine with a similar design of tensioner?

I wonder if your squeal be the viscous coupling for the fan, or perhaps the idler pulley itself?

Agree about the human hand thing but that is what the AAN manual says about tension.

As for the AAN serp belt, the tensioner is an automatic spring loaded thing (different than the ABY and ADU, IIRC)

I meant I wonder why there isn't a torque setting for the ABY/AAN/ADU cambelt tensioner / idler pulley, which has a hex head on it to tighten it.
On our B6 S4 engine, there is a very similar type of tensioner used for the alternator belt, which has a torque setting in order to achieve the right belt tension

Good question. Don't know why there isn't a spec. Sounds like a science project for somebody.

There is a spec, just tight enough , but not too tight.

Gates do a deflection gauge for belt drive bikes to measure tension. Only think would be what you would use to calibrate? A car that appears to be ok?

A Spoke tension meter could possible also measure deflection and>tension.

Check the viscous fan bearings and alternator charge rate at start-up.

I would probably remove the alternator and power steering pump belts to eliminate them as that is quick and easy.

Just for your knowledge the alternator and viscous fan and pulley with bearing for the viscous is brand new... gona check the tension on the cambelt, but as I asked before does anyone know if I can looose/rethighten the cambelt without loose the hoodplate/bumper and such... Can I take of the cambelt cover alone?

And yes it was a gorilla that change and thigthen the belt
