Ignoring all that, where's a good place to enquire about a full turbo back system in the south west? I live about 5 minutes away from the Longlife exhausts place just north of Bristol.
They wanted £360 for a golf but keep in mind that a Scorpion for the golf was 400 fitted and the S2 is a lot more complicated with some random twin pipe sections.
Once met a bloke at Manor tyres in Chipping Sodbury who'd bought an M535i for 500notes from an auction requiring an exhaust, although just the 17" Momo arrows on it were worth that 2nd hand. He was quoted IIR 600 notes for a standard replacement cos it was twin pipes all the way down! All of a sudden a custom stainless at 550 seems ok!
see you and the A A chaps next thurs for some koni action!

Pressuredrop should be reduced over the entire intake.
This is just an example.
If the turbo only has to produce pressure like what´s needed in the head it will have more power wich means that you can increase actual pressure.
Or something like that.....
Anyway. Don´t waste turbopower on bends an bad IC´s. And don´t say that an RS2 is good enough. There is always something better...
The garret turbo does require more fitting than say an RS2 turbo, but it has the advantage of being able to produce good torque and resonable power, without the 'lag' of the RS2 unit. To be honest, a stock RS2 doesnt have very much lag IMHO.

Unfortunately with the S2, removing bends, changes in XSA and other volumetric or divertionary inefficiencies, whilst keeping a standard appearance, is a bitch, as I'm sure anyone would tell me. The more 'stock' finish I acheive, the better. The S2 is all about stealth and I don't intend on turning mine into an Evo/Scooby/Cossie wannabe! It's pearl white and that's bling enough for me... I am ginger afterall and so have no idea of style... !

The turbo will need to have custom oil/water lines to it and an adapter for where it meets the manifold.
Its not that had to do, just more costly. IMHO, i think if you are after a stock looking car, then just get the exhaust done and a 100 cell high flowing cat and the 7A cam along with RS2 intercooler. This should get you near to the 290bhp mark with a custom ECU re-map.
If you want a higher outout car then prepare to change more. I dont think the RS2 is laggy compared to a stock car (which i drove not that long ago)
I think thats the best you are gonna get, without changing the car too much.

Yep! Have a feeling that any work/preparation on the standard engine will be in preparation for a new turbo (GT30/40R, K27 etc) when it ceased to be a daily driver. I've tried to resist and convince myself that standard is best but as with my old Golf... I can't!

Dont waste your money doing itermediate upgrades. I did that and it cost me a fortune more than it should have. Get a power figure in your head and build the car in one go. Dont buy an RS2 Ic or manifold, as if you want 450+bhp then they are no good.
RS2 ex manifold will be good for approx 430bhp, but if you want a Garret turbo then a custom manifold will work LOADS better

If he goes down the garret route won't the bottom ends going to go boom without new rods and pistons?
Oh and make sure you change the head gasket from the paper one to the metal one, otherwise it makes a hell of a mess, isn't that right TOM! :mischeif:
If it's a daily driver i wouldn't aim higher than 360-370 and just go RS2 upgrade route.
My S2 is "Almost" standard, bar an AMD rechip 7 years ago @ 93k miles. It also has CAT remover pipes and a performance lambda probe. It was dyno'd recently and put out 280bhp and 302lbft torque. Exactly the same figures as 7 years and 50,000 miles ago. The car feels absolutely spot on, no hesitation, strong and when the turbo is on boost it positively rides the wave of torque .
Personally I could not see the point in spending £000's for the sake of 40bhp and 30 lbft torque for all the trouble and potential problems there can be.
May be I am getting old!!
Whatever you decide I wish you luck and I am sure you will be
Cheers,
Steve.
