    Long term plan:-

Current thinking is to get the RS2 EM and IC on a homefries with a K24 along with a gradual upgrade of the zorst and a decent intake setup. A drip feed of power so to speak. Aim would be 290ish.

Then do the head and 7A/RS2 cams depending on availability (see separate thread on reground 7A/S2 cams). Aim is to improve gass flow and change the head gasket and bolt set etc. at the same time in around 15k to 20k's time when the head will require a rebuild anyway. Look for IIR 300 although I'm fully aware that on a generic chipset this may not happen but the point is that she's ready and waiting for more or I can just get a custom remap and call it a day... unlikely!

Fianlly get the RS2/GT30R and a full custom remap (and injectors if required). To be fair I'd forgotten about the S2C RS2 chipset which would be a simpler generic approach, assuming everything was near RS2 spec. To get to this stage will take patience but it would take the car to a point where things get seriously custom.

Finally an RS2 Im for the 'Powered by Porsche' BLINGNESS!
Lol, forgot yours is M reg same as mine, you should have metalhead gasket as well already.

I wouldn't do the RS2 EM until you changed to the RS2 / GT30R, makes to do that job all in one!
Yeh you could get away with the ABY injectors.

Still tempted to tune on a k24... D'Oh!

A quick search of Ebay.de has yielded 2 lots of RS2 'Green' injectors for 200Euro and a few RS2 turbos, although one is described as a K24, for IIR 300+ euro and a few RS2 IC's for pretty good money. Useful but I'd need someone who's German is better than my 7 year ago GCSE! Also found some fully electric RS2 front seats in black leather for 1250Euro... dribble! The availability of so much RS2 equipment is the only time that I've wished we were more like Germany... oh, and the Autobhans!

            Andy,

You will get benefits from an RS2 EM and RS2 IC running on the K24 turbo. There is no need for RS2 'green' injectors unless you are using RS2 or larger turbo.

It would be wise to get your K24 reco'd with new seals etc if its on high miles and/or gives cause for concern. The K24 is great little turbo and provides enough oomf to embarass lots of brand new 'sports' cars of today. Sure it runs out of puff ~300bhp but the trade off is LOTS of torque available in the mid range and minimal lag.

I know how tempting it is to go down the RS2 path, because everything is bolt-on parts of known high quality and capability, but *boy* does it get expensive...

I'd love to know what results you get with the generic ABY chips before and after fitting the RS2 EM and IC... and then with the exhaust fitted after that. As that would give great data for the kind of gains expected without additional ECU tweaks. Sure it will cost three sessions on the rollers, but that is a small amount to pay for some real info - or do you have a G-meter ?

You will need to run on 98 Optimax or get supplies of Octane booster on board.

Two other suggested mods for boost insurance are a sef of Samco hoses... and the fitment of a proper catch/breather tank as this will remove any chances of oil vapour dirtying the air intake - increasing temperature and reducing knock resilience.

Forget that generic chipset. Waste of money. That turbo WILL NOT do 400bhp!! BTDT. Its the same as Paul J's. I used to have it on mine. Its easy for me to spend your money, but go for RS2 manifold, RS2 intercooler, RS2 turbo and RS2 injectors. Along with the exhaust system, this should give you about 360-380bhp. With a custom remap. A generic chip will work to a degree, but you wont ever get the full potential from the mods.

Headgasket might be worth doing, along with some RS2 crankshaft bearings. The stock ones will possibly be OK, but its not worth the risk.

Tom - the generic chips aren't claiming 400bhp. Come on man. Generic chips don't just work 'to a degree' - they have been dyno'd at 410-430Nm and 270-280bhp for crying outloud without any mechanical mods. I know you are an agent for MRC now and I love what Mihnea does to bits with all the toys and experience he has to get the most out of any given setup... But please don't try and poo the generic chips offhand.

Andy's original post was about how close the K24 could get to 300bhp and your off telling him to forget that and get a full RS2 conversion.

Also - I think RS2 crank bearings are same as ABY and his MY94 should have the metal gasket already.

Wow, i wasnt trying to poo on the generic chips, i have seen them in action. They are very good. I know Andy set out saying about a K24 setup, but it has developed into a higher state of tune, with a K26 turbo possibly on the cards. Was just saying that if he wanted to get the best from a turbo like that or even the RS turbo then, it would be advisable to go for a custom map in the first place, that way he doesnt have to pay twice.

It would be very nice to see if a K24 can hit the 300bhp mark, loads of low down grunt with good power to top.

You can read compressor maps Paul, whats the surge limits like on the K24??? How far can you take it, low down and top end in terms of boost etc??

                    @S2Central

Already have Samcos and run only on Optimax (gets a little expensive!).

Will be going down the K24 path to begin with due to funds and the fact that it's a daily driver atm and as you said it spools up quickly and gives lots of low-end torque which is just what's required for the daily trudge to work and back with traffic, tractors, old people and the odd chavalier!

Will need to get the car RR'd at some point to 'check' everything is spot on before I get it remaped and then after. Just need a final checklist and somewhere worth doing it in the southwest/midlands (AmD, Interpro (not too keen)...). Then it's time for a Homefries and then the RS2 IC and EM, will need to do the EM before going to get it RR'd but could do a power run and then fit the IC if it would be a real help, it's only another £XXX... LOL! Would be a pleasure to try things out, some of the forum may even want to make a day of it (never did find out what happened to the RR shootout in my area, must check).

wrt the breather tank, what have people done before? (just to get some ideas) Where can it be fitted, it all a little tight round that side! Can the breather be put to atmosphere with a little K&N filter on it?

                    @ Audiman

Thanks for the advice on the chipset, was doing the wrong thing and thinking of cutting corners so to speak. As with most of the power figures I've been floating about, they are chosen a little high to see just how far things have progressed above the other threads I have found or read on similar subjects. A few months ago 300bhp out of k24 on 'sensible' boost was rarely entertained but now it seems a little better understood and there sems to be a little more experience floating around.

Im planning on getting mine on the rollers sometime in the not too distant future, probably will be early january now, dunno where yet though.
so if there is anyopne who missed the one in scotland who wants theirs doing maybe we could arrange one somewhere.

Midlands/Oxfordshire/South West for me. I live in the town where Interpro are but have never really heard any enthusiasm directed at them.

Have re-opened a previous thread on a RR day.

Just remebered this thread from when I first had the car...

Only took 3 years to get a 'mere' 297bhp out of a standard engine and a k24 Hopefully the toys in the garage will take it over the edge

                            Mods are:
                            - RS2 IC
                            - Milltek cat back
                            - Samcos & other silicon hoses
                            - Homefries

                            Since then
                            - SM flywheel, 3B clutch

                            To go on
                            - Milltek DP & sports cat
                            - 7A inlet cam

Will get it all fitted, boost checked and RR'd when it's MOT time in April. Hope it breaks the 300 barrier and still has the strong torque from low down.

Wonder what'll happen in the next 3 years!
