    missfire at 4000rpm

Car is a quattro 20valve saloon non turbo the engine code is 7a

I know that u people mostly have the turbocharged engines but i was hoping maybe someone can help me with a problem so here goes. When accelerating flat out the car pull cleanly up till 4000rpm then it's like there is a rev limiter and it struggles to pull through it, once through it, goes like hell its just around 4000rpm then it clears about 4200 rpm.
I'm hoping some1 can help me as from what i've been reading u all must be sensor and vacume pipe experts lol! ohhh and it has had a new lambda sensor any ideas , thanks for you suggestions

It should have them on a 7A.
They should be just above your right foot.

If it’s 2 connectors (pre March 1990), get yourself an LED, plug the anode (+) in A2 and the cathode (-) into B1. Turn the ignition on. Then use a jumper wire to connect A1 and B1 for 4 seconds. The LED should then flash out the codes.

If it’s 3 connectors, same method as above, but the LED cathode should be plugged into B2.

There’s a guide somewhere on S2Central.net about how to read the codes.

I normally clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds.

BTW, make sure you don’t connect A1 and A2 together, what ever you do.

              HTH.

Early 7A engines don't have them. I was stuck with this problem a few weeks back. They do have fault codes but you have you have to use a fuse in the fuel pump relay.

I can't remember the exact procedure of the top of my head. I'll see what I can find.

Oh yeah. Just stick the fuse in the top of the fuel pump relay for 4 seconds, to activate the instrument engine warning light.
You can activate mine like this too, but I still need the LED to see the codes.

Yep. One of the methods above. Depending on what you find under your dash.
