... So my question is it worth £170.50 for a pump with one tooth less . The jury is out so just need the verdict.
It's three teeth fewer. The AAN/ABY is 29 teeth, the ADU is 26 teeth. It is the cam belt that is one tooth less, i.e. 150 instead of 151.
I seriously doubt that unless you are tracking your car extensively that the ADU pump will be of any benefit, especially not for that difference in price.
Got the price on a RS2 waterpump from my man in Germany. 399€ and the cambelt was 60€, the last one in Germany he stated. Guess RS2 parts are just getting harder to come by.
I guess some Porsche Boffin decided that the restrictor and the pulley were necessary modifications. Looks like they were trying to speed up the flow.
Do we know whether the amount/size of the vanes differs to the ABY pump. If not that might open the possibility of an enterprising member to knock up a pulley if you really wanted to do this. Whether its necessary or desirable is debatable but clearly Porsche thought it was!
I don't believe this is a restrictor, I think it's a seal. As the thermostat opens the disc on the bottom of the thermostat moves down to close the bypass route.
I suggest that especially with the extra draw of the RS2 waterpump, under hot and high RPM conditions coolant was being drawn from the block (still hot) into the pump through the bypass channel rather than (cold) from the radiator return, hence the "restrictor" to help ensure the thermostat sealed off the bypass route.
..........and an ABY water pump from GSF is only £20. Worth changing every cambelt change at that price.
John
I always change the water pump when changing the cambelt. I thought this is how the factory recomends.
You guys don't do the same? At what mileage do you change the cambelt and at what mileage you change the cambelt + water pump?
For me 50.000 km (31000 miles) or 5 years require new cambelt + water pump.

+1
but depends on what car and how you drive it.
if you use it for 95% races, 10000kms and open it ,so new cambelt, water pump,etc...
at least is what PK-Motorsport advised me to do in my engine
