350 is not much tbh on stock stuff as Andy says its tuning that makes it live or die to a level.
mine had 125k on it when I replaced the rods and skimmed the pistons. I put the pistons back in with the original rings on them leaving the bore as they were and did 2 bar there abouts o the big turbo with no probs and no oil burning.
gotta be one of the best engines the I5 for compromise of durability and performance.Comment

Welcome back, Chris.
Just go for an S2 that feels right, and has been serviced well.
I would be more wary of buying low mileage cars of age, than high milers. But they must be well serviced.
My 3B had done about 180k when I stripped it. Everything looked really good inside, and the only oil it used was the 500ml/6000 mile that leaked out the back of the cam cover or got blasted out the breather.SSComment

High mileage I don't think is necessarily a problem, but as usual it is how the engine has been looked after which is more important.
The engines are good for very high mileage but they need regular servicing and oil changes.
I would be more worried about the state of the underside as the cars are getting old now and there are some nasty jobs lurking where no one can see!
My S6 has 180k on the clock and the engine all seems fine and runs very well, but I bought with a view that if it goes belly up then that would be a good excuse to uprate the whole lot and do a lot of other jobs at the same time so it's win win (I think!)
With any of these variants of cars I don't think you can go in with a view of cheap car cheap fix as unless you are a very good mechanic with the right working space they can suck money up pretty quick, but that is part of the fun in some ways, just make sure you budget for a least the cost of the car again for work (If paying a garage to do it)Audi S6Comment
