what about the generous rocker cover that looks after the cams in its spare time?

Can someone clarify?
Read heaps of posts and pretty sure these were plug and play with
the correct coils on the ABY.Comment

the actual coil fits in the cover and onto the plug but stands about 2-3" proud....and its the actual steel connection end that would need trimming and that will not happen as you would have to trim the plug connection to get it to sit right....Comment

The original style 4 pin coil packs needed a bit of trimming both on the hard plastic and the rubber sealing ring in order to allow them to sit down low enough to "snap" onto the hex on the sparkplug.
Here is a photo from my 2005 DIY write-up on installing 1.8t coil packs in an AAN:
Trimmed is on the left, untrimmed is on the right (note: this was not done using Brazilian bikini wax):

Mike: I am not clear about what you are saying about which coil in which cover. The Red-topped 115E coils do not need trimming because their top sits much higher than the original 115L coils

sorry "uncle" Dave...
the 115E coils stand proud of my ABY cam cover by 2-3" which compared to my current kit (not sure of number as it was on the car when I got it) which sit snuggly into the spark plug portion of the cover....it just looks odd...Comment

Hmm...I am running red 115Es on my AAN with the AAN *cam* cover and they don't sit that high. (??!!) Maybe you meant 2 or 3 mm?
Here is my AAN engine bay, as shown in this photo from Strut Bar 101:

Here is the thread about long and short coilpacks, you can get both in red color, but the long TFSI packs theoreticly gives stronger spark. http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60647

The short red coils @16.4 cm = 06C 905 115M.
The long red coils with the stronger spart @17.8 cm = 06E 905 115E.
I am running the 06E 905 115E's and they only sit about 2 or 3 mm above the top edge of the cam cover.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan
