Should the connector be on the top or the bottom? and should they have used jubilee clips rather than tie wraps

Thought so, it's annoying what some people will do just to get your car out of the way when they have had enough of it. Although it was in his garage for almost 10 months and the blame was 50/50 so just have to finish things of with the help of the Forum

Looks wrong to me, so is the recirc valve. Both should be the same as above. And replace all the tie wraps with proper metal clamps.

So the pipe that comes out the middle should go to the turbo?

How come the car runs or seems to run reasonably well if it's connected up wrong

Here is another shot showing the line connected to the turbo, and the remaining line I think goes to the wastegate

Agree. The nipple coming out of the bottom of the WGFV solenoid goes to the turbo. The longer perpendicular leg nipple goes into the MAF to turbo hose. The remaining shorter leg perpendicular nipple goes to the Waste Gate. (I have one off my UrS4 in front of me - I am running the RS2 N75 which has the electrical connection plug differently oriented than the UrS4 N75 - but the important part is the orientation of the three nipples, not the electrical connector).
