    KE-Motronic help - car won't start!

Hi, needing some help diagnosing this problem I've got. It's my Audi's 'ACE' 2.0 16v engine, running KE-Motronic.

Car cut out on the road with my girlfriend driving. It was acting like it had run out of fuel, but she managed to get it started again three times, then it just packed in altogether. She got the AA out to it before they dropped it off to me, he checked the spark which was good and managed to get it going by spraying easy start into it, so points to fuel.

I checked supply fuel pressure by slackening the bolt on the meter head after the regulator, plenty pressure, keeps going when you crank it. Then cracked the bolts on the injector lines, nothing out of any 4. Again plenty fuel out of the warm up injector so seems to be going through the meter head, just not being distributed. Checked the codes on the car before I started, only code I got was along the lines of 'MAF no earth'. Assuming that what is equivalent to a modern MAF sensor is built into the unit itself? and is the three pin plug on the side of the meter head?

I've got my hands on a Bosch fuel system pressure tester kit (don't know where to start with it) Can anyone help me diagnose this better before I go looking for a new meter unit?

    Cheers

    EDIT;

The three pins there are what I am assuming the is the air flow meter (MAF)

Did you take readings from the plug while lifting the metering plate ?

No! Thanks for that, will try it asap. I've just found a wiring diagram so now know what plugs to what.

Nope, the fuel pump runs so I'm assuming the relay is fine. Will check ECU one but car shows signs that ECU is acting normally

Just out of curiosity did the car not start both hot and cold ?
Open or closed loop so to speak?

Broken lambda sensor is one thing that can stop KE-motronic from starting and running. It's easy to test, just pull off the sensor connector and try to start.

Tried most of the suggestions, MAF looks fine, behaves like it should.

I then went to test fuel pressures and results were poor. Got about 3.4-3.8 Bar from the control pressure point.

So tried straight from the pump like this and barely managed about 4 Bar.

What do you think fuel pump? is there anything else that can go wrong down there? It got a new fuel filter about a month ago.

I have a similar issue but minbe always starts and runs fine. its setting off that's the issue. not had chance( too lazy) to investigate properly yet.

id check from the tank forwards and make sure you got no blockages. then pump at those levels. check power to pump.

I reckon you have a vacuum leak as I had a very similar issue recently on my 6a engine b3

                            did you fix the issue?

mine has gone to a stage where it will run but only for a few seconds after its been started and run for a bit. if that makes sense.

after a few minutes of perfect driving its a pig.

iu have changed. lambda, fuel pump, filter, metering head, fpr, all airbox switches, removed tank, checked for blockages.

tonight im on to doing some wiring tests. bypass fuel pump relay first.

                            kjets a bitch

Hi, Yea I sorted it. Took the fuel pump out and the inlet was chocked up with junk, cleaned it and away it went.
