any interest in a water/meth kit?...

What's there to debate?
There's only one system that tracks IDC and is linear, and has a flow based failsafe - that's the Aquamist.
Everything else uses tends to use MAP sensor based activation and if you use a lot of it (1100cc+) then you will have jumps in your AFR graph. The "progressive" stuff on MAP based controllers is rubbish, as the turbo spools from 0.7 bar to say 2 bar very quickly, so it might as well be just full on instantly. Any kit without a proper flow measuring failsafe is a ticking time bomb, as if something happens to one of the hoses or the pump, then a low level switch makes no difference to you melting your engine.
If you don't use a lot of it, and don't map for it, but just want cooler intake temps, then get the cheapest one possible. Devilsown makes really cheap kits, where you just have the pump and the kit is activated via a pressure switch, but any other will do.
Just don't expect it to make nearly as much difference as a full blown kit which is mapped for.Comment

Mine is an Aquimist but I got it in the late 90's. Mine is not mapped for it it just gives me some top end protection. My boost controller switches it on at 1.1bar with a .4 jet.
Quite happy with how it goes (as witnessed at the recent MRC day) and won't harm the engine should it fail.
The guy who owned Aquimist (Andrew from memory..) said at the time select what boost you want it to come in at and then keep increasing the jet until it occasionally backfires when it does you need to come down.
At .6 I get backfires hence used .4. When logged temps went from 23 cruising to 26 when on full boost at an 18 ambient.
Runs well.

why does there appear to be 2 different "versions" of the aquamist system...different pumps and electronics....
is the aquamist a UK or US brand?Attached FilesComment

I have no idea what the first one is, the second one is the correct one.Comment

The first one is the old one, the one I have. It came with a bronze coloured pump for road use or silver/grey for competition use.
I guess the second one is the later version.

this was one of the examples that appears when you search for aquamist kits...
I am still struggling to get my head around the difference between the aquamist http://www.coolingmist.com/pagedispl...key=turbo_kits,
and the likes of AEM http://www.aemelectronics.com/water-...ction-kits-23/ which show adequate fail safes....

so Darren its just down to pump design....and your choice of jet relates to....
have those using this kind of set up got any pictures of jet/injector location/set up. Having got an understanding of the location for a few reverse inlet, I'm curious how others have positioned their set ups....Comment

It looks to be just a pump design, though I think the links you have added are for different manufactures.so Darren its just down to pump design....and your choice of jet relates to....

The first link shows a similar set up to mine (the same as your first picture) the difference between your first picture and your first link is that the first (picture) is triggered by boost only and the first link which includes the same pump is the mappable version. Incidentally I used the MF2 box in the picture to control a 6th injector when mine was a 10v as I didn't want to use it to map the water.
As for jet location you naturally don't want it squirting at you air temp sensor.. Mine is located on the exit of the intercooler as for size it will depend on if your mapping it for it or just giving it some top end protection.Comment

The pump in the second picture is probably a generic pump made for all companies. My snow performance pump looks excactly the same. Its down to the electronics now that each company uses to control and manage injection.
Safe modes have been introduced from various models as well. Snow performance has the 'safe injection' module with multiple safety features and also modules to control injection through maf/map reading.
However these pumps tend to rot if not placed in the engine bay. My second one looks very ugly already and I'm trying to think of a way to either mount it elsewhere or cover it with something to avoid direct grit and water.Comment

You only need the failsafe if you are actively mapping for the methanol and using big jets.
If you are not, then no need, if it turns off you just have higher temps, that's all, no damage done.
The benefit of Aquamist besides the metal compression fittings and failsafe is it works in proportion to injector duty cycle. Similar to how a LPG ecu works for example. I'm not aware of any other systems that do this.
But again, this is only important if you are actively mapping for it. If you're not, this is irrelevant and you don't need any fancy electronics at all.Comment
