Bosch 044 Fuel pump help needed

Hello fellow geeky forum members (thats what the wife calls us..)

Following on from this thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...light=rs2+pump

I am on the hunt for a bosch 044 fuel pump and need some help on a few things:

    1) Which model?

    2) Can the ones advertised as external actually be used in the tank?

    3) Basket....which one? I have an RS2 and S2 one at my disposal

    4) Fittings- which one will I need?

I have spent ages on the forum searching at other forum members similar posts but have never been able to come up with a definitive answer, not just that but most posts on here are from years ago etc, does anyone know if bosch have an even better pump these days?

Car is RS2 spec circa 400bhp setup and Avant.

Thankyou for any constructive help anyone can offer

Andy: You really need to take advantage (and use) the forum search function sometime:

If so, you would have found Doug_RS2's fitment guide thread:

Which sometime ago, I turned into a printable pdf that you can take out to the car. I know I post it up here before. Here it is again (See attached):

Dave thanks for the input, I genuinely appreciate it. The problem is I have read that post, I typed the 0 580 254 044 part number into ebay and it comes back with an 040 pump, again thought this was oldskool? Also I am under the impression coupe's are different to Avants.
I really dont want to open up yet another thread and just start a debate... take a look at this

Perhaps I should of made it clearer.....What 044 Pump on the market right now is best?

It's not all about flow. It's about pressure at the required flow. For 28 psig (1.93 Bar) boost, with a 4 Bar (58 psig) pressure regulator you need 86 psig (5.93 Bar) at the fuel rail. The Bosch 044 is one of the best pumps that can do this.

Just Googled the 044 PN and one of the results was an eBay uk posting for a 044:

You say you have read the links I provided but yet you ask these questions that are clearly answered in the links.

Did you really read Doug's DIY (either the thread or my pdf)?

The 044 was originally inteded for external tank use. HOWEVER, it can and has been installed by many many people INSIDE the fuel tank. Works fine. (This one DOES need an external check valve, as detailed by Doug).

Dave, thanks for the input as mentioned but I really dont want to turn this into a debate.
Yes I see your point, of course I do, but I am trying to put everyone in the picture,I already know 1 or 2 answers to the questions I set out to be answered, but then my logic was I wont be the only person in this position, others will at some point do a search and rather than getting fed up of all the debate- just be looking for the answer:- from someone who has actually done the conversion.

If you have then fantastic, you are just the person I need input (and I appreciate it, all the links you post, the time you spend etc and its all because we all share the same interests) from.....

                    No offence intended

Buy the 044. The 040 is cheaper but just fit the 044, the more headroom the better.

Yes, pump can be used in or out of tank

The bigger one, used on older mechanical injection cars or early 7A's. As a general rule all 10v cars, 80, 90 or 100 if you fancy searching some scrap yards for them.

Complete parts list can be found here --> http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showpos...5&postcount=21

Only thing not listed is the eye connectors for the wiring loom, Bosch pumps have larger terminals so you will need to replace them.

This does NOT seem correct. A 0580 254 044 is a 0580 254 044. The only thing is you want to get one that is made in Europe, not a Chinese copy.
