    rs2 coolant change (correct mix?)

    Hi all and merry chrimas
Since I am replacing the the bosch electrical auxiliar water pump (other had a leak) I decided to chang all the water coolant of the circuit.

I Toke "Pete_RS2" advice I decided not to refil with the already mixed coolant that I got on supermraket ( ELF -15C), returned them; and I will go to audi dealer and go ask for G12+ or see what they use to mix here in Portugal oficialy on Audis.

    My question on this is:
Do I mix with regular water or is it better to do the mix with destilled water? I ask because, usualy home water has some chimicals like antiseptic stuff, chlorine etc...

    thanx

Best to mix the additive with Distilled or de-ionised water.
A 40% coolant additive and 60% water mix will be fine, or 50:50 mix if you prefer but no more than that.

I agree with Petes suggestion. I use about 3 bottles of G12 on a drained system, and then fill with water, if you use distilled water, the rad will not build up with calcium deposits, helping it to run cooler in the long term.

Some destilled waters are chemically cleaned and they are too clean.... Well, its like on a boat you put Zink on to avoid rust. Same can happen with destilled water.

Cheapest way is to boil the water then put in the fridge to cool.

Said cheapest way, and boiling it does work as it removes alot of impurities but doesn't ionise it.

Hence why you get crappy limescale on the kettle.

Jamo you can boil it yes, but that wont de-ionised the water and that is what you want. Boiling it does help but you need to catch the fumes and kondensate that to get it de-ionised. And it aint worth the problem since 5 liters can be bought for like 2-3£ where i live.
de-ionised water can be bought on norml service/gas stations, since it is used for batteries.

You can buy it on the Super MArket! They sell it for cars, these mashines for making the clothes straight after they have been washed!

Or you can put some water in The coffee mashine without adding coffee! The water that comes out is distilled water!!!!

Well if it aint de-ionised you might as well use tap water then, cheaper and faster since you dont have to heat the water.

Me thinks you just aint listening, the concern was tap water is full of impurities, i said if you cant get de-ionised water, then boil the water to get rid of maybe 50% of the impurties which makes it better than using standard tap water.

Correct - you can buy very pure, de-ionised water from most garages and supermarkets - it's usually marked as bottle for topping up car batteries and the like. Use that in preference to normal tap water if at all possible.
Next best thing is, as Jamo suggested, to boil a kettle-full of water and then use that. It won't be as pure as the proper distilled and de-ionised stuff, but it will at least be a bit "Cleaner" - this should help slow down the mineral deposition in side ones radiator... Try and avoid using ordinary tap water if at all possible, especially if you live in a hard water area like East Kent. Don't use bottled "mineral" waters: things like Evian are full of all sorts of dissolved minerals, defintely best avoided!
