    Replacement OE IC Idea

Had an idea to allow a larger IC on a stock inlet car by ditching the cross member pipe and using that area for intercooling

The XC could be formed between the two ICs and the upper IC could act as a brace, if required.

    What do you think?

Better just to go with the reverse inlet

Dose that sit in front of the cross member or has the crossmember been deleted?

It has a custom cross member and removes the need for a custom pipe from l to r. Also gives more mass to the ic to improve heatsink properties.

What are the thoughts of using a ic with the inlet and outlet on the same side ?

Pete Berry, White Cottage Quattros, did this on a customer's S2 Andy. IIRC he used 2 stock intercoolers in series with the upper one inverted. It worked really well, Mihnea mapped the car and was pretty impressed with IATs I heard.

Dual pass intercoolers are not as effective as single pass charge coolers. There are losses due to making the charge air turn 90 degrees, just as in the standard S2/RS2 intercooler setup. Also, the charge air in the secondary part of the IC is heat soaked somewhat by being connected to the primary part. Probably better than stock though.
