  • Aggggggghhhhhhh - OIL LEAK !!!!

my Avant has recently developed an oil leak, which I noticed from the terrible smell of burning oil and the smoke cloud from the bonnet at a standstill.

It's not noticeable on a short steady run, but give it any beans & it's terrible.

Had a quick look & it seems oil is dripping onto the exhaust down-pipe.

Allsorts is going through my mind now. cracked manifold ? head gasket? turbo oil feed or return? turbo leaking?

Are there any common faults in this area. & do they have easy (and inexpensive) fixes.

    Yours hopefully, Steve (batty)

Is it not possible it could be one of the half moons from the Rocker cover gasket at the back of the head? Mine popped out slightly and resulted in the oil pissing everywhere....

Depends where its dripping! It could be any nuber of things. Got any pics?? IT could be leaking steering rack to a small leak from the cam cover gasket. Need more info please

Could it be the stop valve has broken in the breather system and therefore boost pressure has blown the cam cover gasket out? I've recently had this problem, try a search.

had my local specialist look at it - he says its a leaky oil cooler. Leak is at the join between the core and the header.

not so bad I thought..........until he told me the price - £191.25 from the stealer........blimey!!!!!

will try Vagparts on Tuesday - or maybe get a Mocal replacement

has anyone experience of how quickly an oil cooler may fail completely i.e. dump all the oil out...'cos I need the car to do 130 miles tomorrow & I'm a little nervous.........
