1. Its easy to miss if you arent aware of it. Many moons ago I did a cambelt change and forgot to change it without ill effect, however I would recommend changing it.
2. Potentially as this is the part that ensures that the wood ruff key does have to take all of the torque
3. Most likely, I had to remove the 4 bolts from the pulley to pop it out
Hope I'm not hijacking the thread now.. This is the one between the belt pulley for alternator/ac/servo and the pulley for the cambelt? Is it the same on the ADU engine and should it be replaced at every cam belt change?
After the bolt has been torqued to spec and you can't turn the pulley because it's binding on the front of the engine is a good indication that you need one.
As I understand it on the AAN, earlier-production units had two different dampers, and later-production ones a third. In the parts system, the earlier dampers supersede to the late one. And the late one is the one that requires the washer. So if your engine is late-production or has had the damper replaced, it should have the washer, otherwise not.
Seemingly the way to tell is that when you put the cam pulley onto the "snout" on the damper, if the snout is almost in contact with the key on the pulley you don't need the washer. If it's about 2mm short of hitting the key, you need the washer.
