You can fit the 80ºC version from an LT Van engine (also fits most other VW's - mainly VR6)

    Part Number: 075 121 113 D

I think there is also a thermostat for the S2 for warmer climates that open 5 gegrees earlier!

The S2 engine is designed to run with water temps at 87C.

Running a thermostat lower than that may prevent the ECU from being happy that normal operating temp has been reached. Consequently it may run a little richer than it needs to - wastes fuel and decreases performance.

A healthy normal 87C thermostat will be a good cure for any territory.

An 80C stat is false economy and perverse wisdom IMO...

well i think it´s for jeffers 2.5 engine and when it´s finnish he is hoping for about 500hp
and if he dosn´t have the small radiator the i would say it´s need, and mihnea or who ever dos the mapping will a just to that, more power more stress/heat that needs to be removed,i am going to buy the same thermostat, and a rs2 pumpe,so that iám sure the temp. will stay low the hotter it´s the more hp you will lose.

                Thermostat

A question on thermostats in general. Mine runs at 90 degrees on the button around town most of the time. No problems. However, on longer runs, water temp drops to around 60 degrees on the gauge. Is this a problem or to be expected?
                Cheers guys

ithink you have a defekt termostat,90 around town i good when you live as hot as aus.but 60 when driving that´s lov,the change from city to longer runs shoulden´t be more then 5-10 degrees, ore there is somthing wrong,a new 8o degrees vr6 termostat is what i would say when you live down there where it´s nice and warm.

Yes - definitely a faulty thermostat. My S6 was doing the exact same thing - changed the thermostat yesterday and now it sits at 90 on the dash gauge in traffic and on the open road. Would only recommend fitting the standard 87 degree stat as this is what it's designed to run with.

I fitted a new stat a few months back but I've noticed lately in the cold weather that the temp drops out of town and sometimes it takes a long time to warm up and I get no warm air from the heater till I've been driving for about 10 mins, so the stat may be sticking.
I think I will remove the small rad and see if that helps. I've left it in so far cos it was new a year and a half ago..

Ive been having this prob with the pug 306 and have come to the conclusion it must be the thermostat not letting water thru the heater matrix.

I dont think the stat controls the water through the heater matrix, ust through the radiator.

Removed the small rad yesterday and the car definately warms up quicker when moving. Overall behaviour of the temp guage has not changed though, goes up to 90 in traffic, drops to 75-80 on the open road.
