What timing belt setup for a stroker

So I'm building a stroker engine with a TDI block and crank. I have an aby for parts eg head and bits and pieces. I have the bottom end built with forged rods and pistons and I'm at the point where I'm sizing up the oil pump, water pump tensioner and belt setup.

So what I have got is an aby and 3b water pump, an aby tensioner, an aby oil pump and TDI oil pump. I checked out the TDI oil pump and it had no noticeable damage or ware so I fitted it to the engine. I'm not sure if its the same as the 3b oil pump but the TDI one has a part that allows an idler or something to bolt too. There is no cast alloy guard part on the TDI pump also so the bottom of the belt wouldn't be enclosed.

The aby oil pump has a cast part that covers the bottom of the belt. The aby oil pump also doesn't have the part for the idler.

The aby water pump is fixed and doesn't move. The 3b and TDI pump moves to tension the belt. The aby has a separate tensioner that would require me drilling 3 holes into the block which would go into the water jacket so I would lock in some studs with sealent if needed.

So what I'm trying to figure out is the 3b oil pump and idler setup to see if its similar to the TDI one. Also I need to see what part I'm missing or if I should swap to aby stuff and drill the block.

So what have others done for covers, pumps, belts and tensioners?

I used the 3B oil pump and water pump. I think i ended up woth an ABY cam belt, I'll have to check on my build thread.

Iit has been over17 years since iworked at VW/Audi in South Africa...............
There we had the T25 VW van.....which ran atfirst the 2.5 ,5 cylinder engine,then 2.6 and 2.3 ,5 cylinder engine

If those with the magic software,could lookup those part numbers and any differences put the info up here....with any diagrams ....that would be helpfull

TDI oil pump

I can't see the PNs very well on either the ABY or the TDI pump. What I think I see on the ABY pump is 054115109B and on the TDI pump, 07A115106B. Please correct me if I am wrong.

What I have previously learned and written about the 20Vt oil pumps includes:

"The oil pump is a gear pump which means the oil pressure is created by two rotating gear wheels as their teeth intermesh, causing pressure as the grear teeth try to compress the mostly incompressible fluid (the engine oil). If the pressure gets too high for some reason in the pump, the pressure pushes against the pressure release piston and spring, releasing pressurized oil back into the oil pan. Note: The ADU in the RS2 originally used the 054115105D oil pump from the AAR 10V five cylinder gasoline engine instead of the more common 054115105E that the AAN and ABY use. However, the 054115105D was dropped on Jan.11, 2002 in favour of the AAN/ABY oil pump (the 054115105E)."

You have the aby pump correct, the TDI pump is 074115119b.

Neither 054115109B or 074115119B are correct PNs for oil pumps. Those are probably just the PNs of the main casting, not the assembly (a common PN issue, I have found).

I will see what I have re: engine photos with an oil pump *AND* timing belt.

In the interim, as far as I can tell, the 151 tooth ABY/AAN timing belt, PN 054109119H, is the longest Inline 5 timing belt Audi made. (The RS2 is 150 and the 7A/NG is 147). The AEL 2.5 L diesel timing belt, PN 074109119R, has 122 teeth.

I have an aby belt to try, its just the oil pump and 3b pulley system I'm not sure about. It sounds like the most likely to work on a stroker easily.

I'm waiting on a head gasket from hank in the USA before I can bolt the head up and get some test fits for length. He is also supplying the adjustable can pully needed.

The TDI oil pump I have has a place for an idler like the one in those pictures but its not threaded. The block is threaded behind this? Sound right?
