why nog break the bank a bit further and go for the reverse inlet (sq style of wagner)? -
See if you can log your temperatures first, it will give you a guide as to if its worth touching for the 250bhp that you run.

Have you found a bigger intercooler that will fit in the gap, I found it was still too thin even with the aux rad removed. There was more room in the stock position when I looked at upsizing. This is why some people with a urq have gone twin intercooler set up when going for a front mount.

Larger intercooler in a 20v urQuattro - is it worth it?
Evening all,
I've been a member here for ages and have read countless project threads but you've all covered everything so damn comprehensively I've never felt the need to ask anything - until now.
My RR is having a bank-breaking restoration and I've been pondering fitting a different intercooler. I'm fitting an aluminium radiator and removing the auxiliary rad, so that leaves a neat area behind the grille for an intercooler in a nice high-pressure zone and unaffected by hot tarmac temperatures. From what I've seen this is a fairly common position for modified Type 85s, but I'm having doubts based on the following:
1. I'm keeping the standard 'round the back of the engine' inlet manifold, so the extra piping up to the grille and back may adversely affect response times.
2. I only have 250bhp or so (it's a very mild Nothelle 2.5 engine), so would I see much of a gain in anything but the hottest weather?
So my question is: is it worth the trouble? Would I be better off making a thicker intercooler to fit in the standard position? Or should I just leave it as standard?
Any thoughts or experiences greatly appreciated.Tags: None
