Noise needs identifying asap

Need some help, engine started to develop a strange rattle from the exhaust side so seeing as the turbo needed new seals anyway sent it off to CR Turbos for an overhaul and said that apart from knackered seals the turbo was perfect and so as expected once it was all back on, started car up and noise still there. Driving the car shows no signs of a problem, still silky smooth and pulling standard boost OK (Due to go to Automark on 11th Novemebr for proper map hence need to get this sorted asap)

The noise is coming from those crap hardware store bolts that were used on the dump tube and the turbo.

I am only NOT half serious about the bolts.

As for the noise, do you own a piece of wooden dowel or a long (15") screwdriver? If so, start the engine and place one end of the dowel (or screwdriver) on the noise suspect and put you ear to the other. Keep trying until the noise is the loudest.

To be honest, based on your story, I have to suspect that the turbo rebuild has gone pear-shaped and something inside is causing the noise.

That would be a lucky and quick fix if it is right. Also would give him a chance to redeem himself on those crap bolts.

Get a piece of tissue and hold it around the joints, you'll see it flutter if you have a leak

Yeah OK but not guilty as they were supplied not by me but fitted by Pipewerx when they did the downpipe for me

If you haven't narrowed down the sound source with a dowel/long screwdriver/automotive stethoscope, that is a lot of work for a trial and error solution.

Screwdriver to ear was inconclusive in that the whole exhaust area from the flex to the turbo and thereabouts all sounds very similar.....

Going to remove wastegate and flex and block open ends and start on tickover, kill or cure if its still there I will have to take another look at refurbed turbo..... Fingers crossed..
