Well if it was between the two indents then you have put about 2 litres too much oil in.

Oops yes, sounds like way too much oil, might just be sucking it up the breather system and burning it.

What I don'r understand though is that you say the oil is still on the top mark?? Are you sure you have the dipstick located properly?

Yes dipstick is in the correct location, I'm waiting for the engine to cool so I can get right reading, it is currently pointing towards being overfilled but I assume that is since it's still hot? (About 1 hour ago I parked it)

20 mins is enough. Drain it and pray it is being forced thrpugh the breather.

Is the car parked on lever ground, and u only have to leave it 20 mins to check the oil

It only takes a couple of minutes to stabilise when you park up. The oil just has to run down into the sump from up in the top end. It's really important that the car is sitting on level ground when you check the level though, Malta is pretty hilly, are you parked on a slope?

I can get it up on jack stands as I've had it up before to fix a loose exhaust hanger, I've never done an oil change myself, should I be ok?

As long as sump plug comes free it very simple. Put 4.5. Litres in next time though....

Drain it. Re fill it then drive gently for a bit see how she goes.
Isnt 10/50 a bit thick for these engines?
