    Hi,

Have been told that they are NLA from Audi
    cheers

I don't see why you can't use a normal AAN belt, there is enough adjustment on the tensioner.

RS2 timing belt has unique number of teeth engine would be trashed fitting an aby or 3b belt!!

unless you change the water pump for something more widely available.....for now that is...

Audi Tradition had them in stock a couple of weeks ago, but now they report out of stock condition. I would send them an email and ask if they when they will be available.

The number of teeth on the timing belt is irrelevant. It's the 2:1 ratio of the teeth between the pulleys that counts.

The two pulley's difference in rotational speeds is controlled by the difference in the number of teeth on the gears. Once the belt is correctly tensioned the two pulleys are connected by a fixed distance and their rotations are locked together by this fixed distance. For every tooth the drive pulley moves, so does the driven pulley.

If belt length affected timing then if one belt was a micron (0.001mm) longer than another, for every 1000 revolutions the timing would drift by 1mm!

The only reason the RS2 belt is shorter is to make it a better fit. I am sure there is enough adjustment in the tensioner to use a normal AAN belt with 1 tooth more.

The reason for it being shorter is the wheel on the water pump that has less teeth (higher speed) than on the other 2.2engines.

A little sidetrack. I've heard that many change the pump/belt because of the pump making "foam" in the cooling fluid when it's driven on track. Anyone ever experienced this with a stock setup and done the convention to a bigger waterpump pulley?

                        Thanks for all the replies

Will definitely send Audi Tradition an email and see when/if they're going to get more into stock.
Otherwise might have to use the bigger belt and water pump.
The tensioner might take up the slack of the bigger belt but not sure I want to risk it without changing the water pump too.

Thanks again, will let you know what/if Audi reply.

It's ridiculous to see many parts of I5 motor is now NLA.the timing belt is the crucial and driven parts on the motor.why the Audi just said now NLA.

What about the rest of RS2 cars remaining when lacking of the timing belt.Park and just being scrapped in the Yard?

                              RS2 Timing belt

                              Hi All,

Just an update on the belt issue.
Jumped on Audi Tradition to email them and low and behold the belt is back listed as in stock, as well as the water pump too.
So I've ordered both and crossed my fingers

                              thanks again
