Karl, have you already tried to clean or change your maf ??? Lambda Probe ???

I can see that you run on RS2 specs. What kind of boost are you supposed to see ?

    1.5, 1.6 bar ??? try a pressure test kit.

      Karl,

I had the same symptons (smoke, not running nicely, and fault codes) with a dirty MAF that I assume got fouled with K&N oil gunk. It was also about this time of year with the Australian heat for some reason....

Cleaned it and cleaned it again, it eventually came good. Although in the process of trying to 'test' whether it was happy under full load again I lost my license for 12 months - but thats another story.

I was going to try changing the lambda probe but repeated cleaning of the MAF and letting the ECU re-adapt seemed to fix it (until I had to store th car for 12 months)

Do check for boost leaks also as has been suggested here. If you want to try and swap the lambda probe for a good one, I might be able to send you the spare one I have sitting around...

good luck - I know its a real PITA

      Jason

I did have a boost leak through the Turbo Smart DV that wasn't holding boost, (I've replaced it with the old stock one) but I'm still getting black smoke under full load. It is definitely running rich
Could a turbo on it's way out make that occur underr full load / boost The turbo with the DV disconnected is only making 14psi tops Could the turbo be the problem The wastegate was tested yesterday and worked fine. Any help would be great thanks

        Check fuel system and pressure.

Check for boost or exhaust leaks.

Check the MAF also - maybe try cleaning it or the connector. There is a quick test on S2central.net.

Also worth changing the lambda probe if you think its due a change soon - unless you have the means to test it.

Clear the fault, by resetting the ECU, then drive again to see how long before (if) it appears again.

Cleaned MAF with IPA - Lambda probe is within spec (around 1.000)
I can see that you run on RS2 specs. What kind of boost are you supposed to see ?(I have not yet fitted RS2 stuff. Don't want to until I've sorted this out to prevent me chasing my tail )

Check for boost or exhaust leaks. (Checked fully - only faulty DV -replaced - little change)
Check the MAF also - maybe try cleaning it or the connector. There is a quick test on S2central.net.(Followed that cleaning procedure thanks - did find some improvement, but still black smoke under full load above 4k )

Also worth changing the lambda probe if you think its due a change soon - unless you have the means to test it. (Tested with VAGCOM yesterday 1.000 fluctuating slightly below that)
Clear the fault, by resetting the ECU, then drive again to see how long before (if) it appears again. (Done - need to recheck on VAGCOM again)
