    Black smoke when engine warm

    Hi guys
Well isn't this just giving me the s$%ts!
Set off from home each morning to go to work, engine warms up fine, car revs through cleanly - no problem. During the day, essentially hot starting, go for a run, car pulls ok on part throttle, but full throttle from 4000rpm upwards induces a ton of black smoke to exit the exhaust.....Particularly uncool me thinks! The car feels like its backing off and is not accelerating smoothly at all, although the boost stays up. So I clean MAF properly, but same thing. Can the temp sender or O2 sender affect it? Any ideas guys, 'cause I want to fix it / isolate it prior to fitting the upgrade turbo etc this week
    Cheers

      Hi Bibby
Do you mean blocked / dirty? Would that only happen when warm or all the time?
I'll put some injector cleaner through anyway.
      Cheers for that

black smoke and hesitation sounds like a boost leak to me and its running rich. I had the same symptoms when the intercooler exit to rocker cover (flexible) pipe split, left loads of black spots over the rear bumper too where the air is turbulent.

Thanks guys. It's definitely running rich, which is why I thought it might be the MAF again. Hence the clean, but no difference...and wouldn't a MAF fault be present whether hot or cold?
I may have to try cleaning it all again. I don't think it's a boost leak though...but then again...
            Cheers

I had a similar problem ... the runs OK, on part throttle, but tank emptied very fast ... and the maf only show problems, sometimes ... I tried to clean, but did not solve. .. changed it ..

Pull fault codes first. Post them here, then

Sounds like rich running alright - likely a boost leak or faulty MAF. Or perhaps a dead lambda probe... Much less likely to be faulty injector or FPR.

Thanks Paul eta al. I'll pull the codes today and see what comes up
I was supposed to be going to the Wakefield Park race track with it on Saturday , but it seems I have a clutch problem / brake bomb issue now . I'll post in relevant section and see how I go

                          Hi guys
The fault codes that came up in VAGCOM memory with ignition on / engine off were:
                          00561 mixture adapter
00513 engine speed sensor - no signal (Is that to be expected with engine off? )
The faults were then cleared. Symptons continue

00561 is the fault code I got when it was my MAF - but I also had other fault messages - but didn't have any smoke and consumption was OK.
Don't know if this helps at all

I did have a boost leak through the Turbo Smart DV that wasn't holding boost, (I've replaced it with the old stock one) but I'm still getting black smoke under full load. It is definitely running rich
Could a turbo on it's way out make that occur underr full load / boost The turbo with the DV disconnected is only making 14psi tops Could the turbo be the problem The wastegate was tested yesterday and worked fine. Any help would be great thanks
