My leaky water pump has forced me to that time again, does anyone have a locking tool I can borrow, or better yet does anyone want to do the job for me for some xmas spending money
That's odd. Can you see if it's leaking along the shaft in the pump or the O-ring at the back? I always use some grease on the O-ring to prevent damage while adjusting the belt by turning the pump.
The only thing I can see is from the front there is pink dried coolant on the pump itself which someone pointed out, other than that it tends to piss coolant down from around the PS pump area, and it has progressively got worse.... If I can get away with just replacing the water pump then I will get that done and save the other parts for next time...
Behind the power steering pump is a small water hose which decided to split on me a few years ago. I wonder if its the saem as yours... You almost cant see the hose unless the main rad is out of the car but that would be cheaper and easier to do than a cambelt.... Its the blue hose (Replacement was done in poly) seen in pic 4 of my thread here http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61799
Thanks Christophski I will have to get someone to have a look for me, I wish I had a run around so that I can do this work myself without risking stranding myself for a day or two
No worries. Im afraid I dont as I actually just had the last little bit left laying around from a previous car I was messing around with... Im lucky enough that I dont need my car really as I use my girlfriends car all the time so mine comes out to play or when I want to use it. It is nice to have the option... Oh and I always have a van for when she wants her car, so a second car does help. I think if you ask Brian Tonks or Alex, Error 404, they may be able to tell you as both of them have engines out at the moment so might be able to take a measurement for you..... Unless you put it into a garage who are bound to have some hose that will work. All of this assuming that this is actually the issue anyway. You can just about see it with the trim cover off of the radiator, with a torch and being in the correct position. Also, make sure the engine is running to pressurise the system so you can see where its leaking from.
You couldn't get more simple and still have wheels, in seriousness the 8 valve Digifant GTi (1988-1992) is the most reliable and is probably the best all rounder.
Mechanically their pretty bullet proof apart from 2nd gear syncro rings which frequently crunch. Rust is my main concern when looking at one, check the arches, sills and rear panel closely especially on the post 1990 big bumper cars as the body kit can hide all sorts of horrors. Their not rot boxes by any means, I reckon most corrosion is caused by repaired accident damage.
