    Moddin the ecu

    Paul

I read your message to Alistair reference the ecu upgrade.I have enquired about chipping my car at a local turbo specialist, and they said the actuator spring would need replacing with a stronger one.I take it you do the work on the 3b ecu,do you recommend replacing the spring with an uprated one?
How much would it be for the work doing on my ecu?

    Cheers Chris.
    Cheers,

    Chris

Chris, forget your local turbo specialist, the wastegate spring needs not to be reinforced on a stock turbo, unless you really insist, I usually use stiffer springs on RS2 turbos and bigger in order to reduce spool-up times and lag, otherwise there's no need for the, adequate remapping is more than enough! Cranking down the spring helps some though, and it is especially needed on a 3B, but it's nothing complicated about that and it can be done in 5 minutes.

Yeah - stick with the standard WG spring - it just needs adjusted to work properly with the new chips. Price for a 3B upgrade is £250-£300 (depending on costs of the necessary 2.5bar MAP sensor).

Let me know if you want to proceed...

Your local turbo ppl were possibly trying to flog your a 'super' chip. Now i know this company has been around since ECU's were designed, but their way of boosting an S2 is all bad. NO electronic boost control, just a stiffer spring in the wastegate to control boost pressure, not good if the car develops a problem.

I had my 3b re-mapped through Paul and I had to change my spring as it had been super chipped before.

I need the ECU for a couple of hours so can usually turn them round overnight. The only proviso to that is that I need a small stock of 2.5bar MAP sensors to cover the 3B upgrades. I shall have that sorted in a week or two...
