ECU swap, 3B to ABY what's easiest method?

    Loom swap? Or pin swap?

I have all the parts for the loom swap including a fully labeled loom and the dash is coming out anyway to change the heater box and matrix.

I know what I would have to do with the pin swap and it's well documented. Are there any pitfalls with the loom swap?

    Opinions and experience please gentlemen

Pin swap is very easy once you get the hang of removing the pins.
For sure much easier than swapping the loom!

If the matrix is out it's only a little over an hour to swap the engine loom. You could do that in the time it takes to pin swap.
          Where is you battery located?

The PITA with the loom swap will be getting to and working on the fuse board area and getting the engine harness fuses fitted up behind it. Also with the Loom swap I believe you will need to chop it about a bit to interface with the 3B rad fan harness
With the pin swap you'll also need to make another mini loom to run the coil trigger wires and ECU earth out to the bulkhead

Personally, I'd do the loom swap as it'll be a neater job when its done

I hadn't thought about the rad fan harness, I do have an ABY fan and housing to fit though, so maybe I just need to source a harness and relay(s) for it?

Pin swap isn't hard apart from having to work in the damn footwell. You will disturb far less this way and all your electrics should work if they are ok already.

The rad fan harness stays in the car, it's not part of the Engine loom?
Also if the battery is under the back seat already it will get rid if the spare live fees wire you have dangling around in your engine bay at the minute.

ive been doing this and to be honest its not bad.

once the harness of off the dash from the screws and the earth off the side so long as you lift the loom the fusebox box comes out of the holder in no time.

I have changed the fusebox and dashwiring. in no expert. 2 hr dash out. 1 hour old 16v stuff out. 1 hour fusebox and dash loom plugging. maybe another hour in it.
