01E301103 is just the case part number. It was superceded in 1996 to 01E301103K and is listed as the case for the CBD, CET and CBL transmissions. Just the case number isn't enough to tell what is inside. Find some more numbers on it.

    01E Manual Transmissions (all have 37/9 = 4.11 to 1 crown/pinion ratios)

CBD - Early Euro and ROW 5 spd manual quattro
    CBD - NAmerican UrS4 and UrS6 (to 96) 5 spd manual quattro
CBL - Euro and ROW 6 spd manual quattro
CET - Euro and ROW 5 spd manual quattro
DPG - 97 Euro and ROW 5 spd manual quattro
DPH - 97 Euro and ROW 6 spd manual quattro
    DPM - 97 NAmerican 5 spd manual quattro, e.g. 97 Canadian UrS6 (like Sean D's)

Don't know how you got that info from the case number 01E301103. The CRB PN is 01E300043SX and its case number is 01E301103K.

CBL 18604 was originally built in March 92 so it would have had the narrow first gear when it was built. "X" implies rebuilt so your guess is as good as mine (i.e. no clue as to what is inside). You might get lucky and get the 105J main/first gear shaft (see below).

CBL 39795 was originally built in April 1993, still unlikely to have a wide first gear, probably the original narrow first geat. No "X" implies original.

PN for both of these 6 spd CBLs should be 01E300044EX. The current part listing says that the first gear shaft is the 01E311105J which is the one from the CRB RS2 transmission. That DOES NOT mean that is what is in your CBLs. It just means that Audi had decided that the 105J first gear main shaft is the best and the only one that they needed to keep in stock (stock might be gone now anyway, so moot). Pricy in any case (so to speak).

                      ALL the 01E's used in the S2s, RS2s, UrS4s and UrS6s are 37 teeth /9 teeth crown/pinions = 4.11 to 1. Same with the rear diffs.

The B5 S4 and C5 2.7 tt 6 spd transmissions are 01Es with 4.11 to 1 ratio and will bolt to an AAN, and, perhaps, an ABY or ADU (but the ADU's CRB should be better than the 2.7tt 6 spds)

Agree that there are some 01Es that are NOT 4.11.

ONLY the ratio/ gearcode will confirm that.... some unit are delivered for other countries, and some have the automatic transmition changed....

Sure, but that is a B5 or B6 (2001 or newer) A4 2.5L TDI transmission.
