    Wierd yellow oil... Help?

So, i posted a while ago about my new S2 Avant.. Test drove it tonight, and oil preassure is fine it also has an oil leak... Funny thing is, the oil it's leaking is very yellow, a bit like hydraulic fluid but brighter. The PAS resevoir has the usual green stuff in it, and the engine oil is more black than gold (havent got round to changing it yet) this yellow stuff is also very "dry" or harsh if i rub it between my finger and thumb, not smooth like fresh motor oil. Could it be from the non functional AC? AC compressor is dry, and the leak comes from the front end... Back side of alternator is a bit wet, and AC pipes are wet but could be just leeking on them and running along till it hits the lowest point and ends up all over the oilpan. Also, i saw that the brake bomb seems quite moist/wet but seems to work. What baffles me is this yellow substance... Any ideas?

    Cheers,

Leave a piece of cardboard under the car overnight to see where the leak might be coming from? Sounds like it could be the A/C condenser that is ruptured and is leaking, most car A/C repair shops use dyes to identify these types of leaks and with this you can use a UV light with glasses to see where leaks for A/C systems are coming from. We have this kit at our garage and it works really well to find A/C leaks, perhaps you can pop by your local A/C shop and ask them to do a leak test?

Just a thought and hope you find the cause of the leak soon

My thoughts too, but no point in leaving a cardboard under, as it runs down the front of the engine, and then down the oilpan... How much oil would there be in the Ac system?

        Gas was about 750g

EDIT: Doubt the system should be carrying more than 400-500ml of oil, I believe the recharges on our cars (small cars) use something like 200-300 in most cases.

a yellow stuff can also com from brakefluid or coolant so if you say it's on the front of the engine than maybe you have a leaking waterpump or tube

I would think it was PAG oil from the AC system

I had a big leak on tdi, saw it drip in the dark and thought coolant due to where it was
Turned out to be washer fluid!
Both nozzles on bonnet simultaneously blocked so it came out of the tube
Just a thought check the washer fluid colour

Thanks for the replies guys it's not washer fluid or coolant. It feels like brake fluid when rubbibg it between your fingers.. But brake reservoir is full, pas is full and it is not motor oil. Im baffeled. Need to investigate more.

Checked the pas fluid again, and it is the usual green stuff... Coul there be some kind of chemical reaction when it comes in contact with the aluminium oil sump that turns it a clear yellow?
