It's time - More power - Engine Upgrade help

So, cut a long story short. My car is too slow. Come to the conclusion that I should not replace my daily driver and chuck a sack load of cash at the S2 to future proof it and give myself a handier kick in the you know whats.

It currently runs a K26 Hybrid and MTM 303bhp chip with a turbo back miltek. It seems ok but more is always better right? It is a 3b but I would like somewhere in the high 300's or even 400bhp whilst checking all the internals are good for another few thousand miles. Anymore is probably too much for fast road use (which is what I am after) It is not a daily but I want it to be a sleeper still with a lot of power on tap when I want it.

    I'm no mechanic but it is running well at the moment, so seems a good time to upgrade various turbo's, IC's, Mani's, remaps etc. Someone else would need to do this work for me as I cannot do it and frankly cannot be bothered anyway. Cost is not a major issue but would like to keep it as close to £5/6k as poss if that is reasonable. As with anything, I imagine things can get out of control as more problems are encountered but the main question(s) are;

    1. Is the above a reasonable ask

    2. Can the 5 Spd Box handle an increase in power

    3. Should I sack the idea off, sell the S2 and use other funds to find an RS2

    4. If I go down this route, can anyone recommend people who have a fine track record of achieving what I am after.

2nd benefit of doing this would be that I might be struggling to find somewhere to keep the car soon for a couple of months, so might be a good idea to give it to someone else to store/work on etc.

    Cheers for your thoughts/views

    Andrew

I have a 3b with rs2 upgrades. Engine was rebuilt by Alred, using rs2 bearings, new oe pistons , and Aron rods. it was all balanced, with upgraded clutch. Then map by Dimitri
[PRJ] to around 360bhp I am very happy with the power. It is drivable in traffic, and out performs most cars without costing an arm and a leg in fuel. You can go for more power but it costs, and there will still be a few cars faster than yours. the secret with these;s cars is the stealth. Very few people, including most Audi garages know what they are.

If you want high 300s and aren't wedded to the coupe, I'd buy an RS2 and get a decent map on it - simples

The RS2 route makes sense but I could be buying some trouble when I know mine is good. I am also a bit fickle and might change my mind on wanting more power in future. If this were the case, I wouldn't want to modify an RS2 anymore than a remap. I know it can be put back to standard but I am no mechanic, it would make more sense to buy an RS2, cherish it and keep it like it was meant to be. The ever increasing brake horse power deficit in my life means I might be forced to get jiggy with the RS2's internals. This would be sacrilege. Thinking about it, I might be a little more attached to Jeeves than I previously thought. I have been offered a good price for it on two occasions and couldn't bring myself to sell it despite it making sense. He just smells and feels right and I owe it to him to keep it going (a little more quickly though)

RS2 route with subtle improvements won't take away from the look and character, but will get you into the low 400s as I have done. However it does limit your options to OEM look & fitment.

That said it sounds like you want to keep the coupe - yes it's money spent that won't be recovered (unlike the RS2 route) but you're more open to modify to your hearts content.

I'd say I found my coupe most fun as a daily driver at 300hp. It was fantastic, useable power still albe to stray well into triple figures without realising it. But if you have a hankering for more power, 400hp does seem to be a pretty good balance. With 430hp the 3B feels pretty savage, I didn't have any issues with the 5-speed but then I only covered a few thousand miles. Torque in 1st and 5th is the issue I believe.

Agree with everything you say there. I would struggle to live with my coupe even now as a daily driver but that is not important for a thrash toy. 1st and 5th are the 2 gears I tend not to smash about ever. It is everything in between I am interested in. I might even consider getting the box fully reconned prior to further engine work. Savage sounds good to me. I like the looseness of the 3b and the way it just lets go. More power would make that feeling more epic. Bit like a teenager with hi flex muscles but no real knowledge or wisdom to know how to use it best ha ha.

Definitely accept that not only will the cost be unrecoverable but it could even lower the value. Not too fussed about that, It was never bought as an investment and fun isnt cheap right?

I'll have a garret gt3076r for sale soon but that will push you towards the 500bhp mark. Speak with Will at VRS Northampton. He knows his onions and will see to what ever you need with sound advice along the way.

Will has been Woking on my 90 for a bit, sent this pic through to me yesterday. This is how particular/ detailed he is when working on customers cars. I've asked him numerous times on whats what and he's always had the time to chat and offer the best advice depending on time/ budget.

Thanks Gents. VRS is not a million miles away from me and I had heard other good things about Will on here but wanted to see peoples suggestions before I started suggesting people I had heard of. Looks like Northampton will be a good place to start then.

Think the gt3076r is probably a bit overkill for my needs. Would be nice to play with the GT3's but hopefully a nicely tuned, driveable 380-420bhp should see me whoop some **** and will be noticeably better than what I currently "enjoy". I will have a bit more of a think about it and speak to Will about options, cost, time required etc. If 450bhp+ could be done safely for £6k that would be great but I was thinking that might be wishful thinking taking into account I wont be doing any of the work myself. We shall see but thanks for the help chaps.

http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...t=hybrid+turbo this one should get you to 400 bhp I think (although I think it's the torque that matters)
