A low tech way of assessing whether the ecu has been chipped is to inspect the tabs that secure the cover on the rear. There is usually evidence of pry marks as the tabs need to be bent up to remove it!
However if you really want to know you will have to open it. Not that difficult but there is a knack to it!
Well unknown chips and a checksum error would tend to suggest an issue. As you have suggested a subsitution would prove that!
Sometimes if you are lucky a diagnostic check with VCDS would bring up a Vendor. Withot knowing their origin, its difficult to comment.
Is the engine stock otherwise?
Enjoy the cimema unless its a chickflick tonight.
Not much you can do until the chips arrive. Might be worth devising a temporay OBD port so that its possible to hook up VCDS for fault finding. It only needs power/earth and the ecu line.
Lets see what happens
The chips are 1 267 358 021/022 which i have X referenced to ecu 145/146 which is the A (unimmo)version I hope.
Never seen those chips before. The lables look like something irrelevant that was cut up and used just because it had a sticky side. The "285" and "285PK" imply 285 hp. However, that is not possible with a stock ABY 2.5 Bar (250 kPa) MAP sensor

That's kinda what I thought. Stock ecu on the way so ill give them a go and triple check the wiring.
Sitting in the cinema now. .but I have a photo from the soldering of the rear of the board...not good!! I'll be re doing that and checking the other one. I'll post the photo later.....
