Hi folks it's a while since I've posted anything on here so here goes, ive got a 3b 10v n/a and desperately in need of more power and don't have never ending funds, so I've been thinking about going down the 10v turbo route is this wise or should I take my time and save up for a 20v. only I am wanting to start buying bits and bobs and need to start making a shopping list and stick to it.i would like to eventually be knocking on the door of 400bhp. advice would be greatly received.
10v turbo or wait for 20v

Having embarked and then ran away from a 10VT conversion I would go for a 20VT for ease of obtaining that 400BHP. I'm not knocking the 10VT motors just their CIS injection system which is pretty pants on an NA car let alone a blown one, one you factor in the cost of a standalone ECU on a 10VT you could have purchased the parts to go 20VT.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

I agree with Kit, hang on for a 20vT as it will cost you less in the long run to reach your 400hp goal. What is your car actually as I don't know of a 3b 10v, if it's a B3 2.3 (NG) Quattro then go with 20vT but if it's a 2wd then I wouldn't do anything with it as anything more than 200hp will be a pain in the backside to drive.
Just my 2cents..

Hell I'd love to go for a 2.4/5 bottom end if I was doing a conversion from scratch, however it's a fair bit of extra money, pistons, rods, bearings, machine work, assembly etc etc etc. A good stock 3B/AAN/ABY motor is capable of 400 BHP with some simple bolt on stuff along with appropriate software/mapping, really though it makes more sense to buy an S2 than convert a CQ.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

20vt.
A 400bhp 10vt is a lot of money, and fighting a loosing battle to get there.
If you are on a budget 400bhp build then stock aby engine + upgraded turbo, exhaust manifold, injectors, ecu, probably advisable; downpipe and intercooler. (plus all maintenance parts to get it in good order)
A chipped 20vt is 280bhp, RS2 spec is 360ish with bolt ons. Billet K26 from Iroz is cheap if you want more power.

Aside from just buying an S2 and modifying it,
Cheapest way is to buy a smashed ABY, keep the engine, ecu, loom, downpipe, intercooler, crossmember, airbox and engine ancillaries etc. Sell everything else off the car and you should be able to make money (time/space being free). Also lets you swap side by side to see where everything goes.
Then buy upgraded parts as required.
Or buy all the parts individually, which will cost a lot more, and you are always missing silly little bits.
If you want a "cheap" 360bhp then buy an RS2 turbo, exhaust manifold, injectors and a chipset to match, £1500 or less if you get parts at the right price.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

Another vote for 20v cheers error.i know selling mine and getting a s2 would make more sense but I'm a bit attached to it now finally got the interior as i want it,and i like the older style front end..
I've been looking out for a damaged s2 but they are very very few and far between I'm pleased to say.Comment

It's an absolute no brainer!!!
20vt all the way.
Generally the only + reason anyone can give for going 10vt is they sound better....
Also with your B3 car it is a direct replacement for the NG engine. Everything is plug and play and if you pull your finger out you could get one in and running within a long day
