How to remove the oil pump?

After dropping all the bolts to the block and sump to the oil pump, I expected the thing to lever off the front - with gaskets etc probably not too easily!

However I've put some almighty force on and can't get more than 2-3mm away from the block. Do I need to drop the sump and do something from the underside?

I'm starting to think I should just refit and when the crank seal inevitably starts to leak I'll take it to VRS and have them do it. I really need the car back on the road soon

Oil pick up tube is bolted to the oil pump

From when I had mine apart, you can see the pick up bolted to the oil pump housing on the right hand side

      No pick up fitted

      Oil pump off

I think you need to drop the subframe to remove the sump.

You could also pull the seal out, and drive a new one in leaving everything in situ. I think there is a fancy Audi tool, or drill a hole and pull/pry it out, drill holes and screw self tappers into the seal to pull it off with etc.

You dont want to start to do that unless you are 100% confident you can finish the job though.

Here is the oil intake manifold rubber cap:

Here is the metal strainer under that cap. Always a good idea if you've dropped the oil pan (sump) to clean out the pan (sump) and the intake pipe cap and strainer.
