There is a myth, that lambda probe is "breathing" through the wire. When you solder the end insulation melts, and lamda is not "breathing". Don't know if it's true, but it may be the reason.

BTW. I've heard, that in South Africa it's not hard to find leaded fuel mixed with unleaded one. As far I understand it will kill lambda probe very fast. So in Albie's place I would be very carefull with the fuel, at least until he find's out that the problem is with his car. Just my 2 cents

The only thing I can think soldering the wires would do, would be to affect the resistance along the Lambda wires. The solder is unlikely to have the same resistance as the OE wire, this may alter the output from probe to ECU. Whatever type of wire they use it's damn hard to solder onto anyway. I went for a mechanical joint where the two wires are joined. By far the best solution is to get a genuine Bosch sensor with the OE plug on the end.

Hi Chris - I got a price for a Bosch lambda of R1200 (GBP100) - try your local Diesel Electric shop - they distribute Bosch parts.

BTW do you have Bosch F5DPOR plugs? The S2's hate any other plugs.

Pity you aren't a bit closer (but I guess 400km is closer than most of the members here!) - my car is lying in bits on my workbench and we could try swap out a few parts to check if they are OK. I am thinking about the MAF, DV, WGFV etc. On that point - have you found the right MAF yet - it could also be the cause of your problem.

@kwlw, I know we have cr@p fuel in SA but I have not heard of any leaded fuel sold as unleaded! BP have just introduced "Cleaner Unleaded" which has no heavy metals in it. It is probably the best fuel at the moment in terms of performance and fuel consumption. Also, I have used leaded racing fuel to up the octane in my S6 (decatted of course) for 70,000 km's now and I have had no problem with the lambda or plugs as yet - you just need to change them more often (generally half the normal life).

@Chris - have you checked your fuel pressure yet? Also, have you replaced your fuel filter?

Gandalfs6 i am going to replace the fuel filter today and see what happen but the thing i think is causing the trouble is the carbon canister valve. If i bridge the two wires on the plug for this valve i can hear the wgfv clicking so i dont no if this is causing the problem error codes give lamda sensor and carbon canister valve.

Yes that's correct. It's called reference air. I expected the comment "wtf" and probably most of you don't believe. It truely sounds quite unbeliveable.

Doug, you can prove this by cutting the bro's lambda signal wire and reconnect it using normal unsolder type pins. Soldering after the 1st connection is of course ok. I hope it helps.

I might be laughing, but I will try it, since it is you porkkis. You mean using crimped pins/sockets to connect the sensor wire to the wiring loom.

                        Crimped, yes, that's the word.
