    rs2 alternator belt

So I was driving home from work today. Gave the rs2 a bit of a tickle to join the highway. Heard a strange sound as if bits of rock where passing/hitting under the car then my battery light came on and the voltage dropped to around 10.5 on the gauge.
Stopped the car to find the alternator belt had come of and shredded

Car has had timing pulley and all belts changed about 1200 miles ago.
Thing that worries me most is the sound of things hitting the car is there anything the belt can damage when it comes off? It had come right off on the alternator side and was stuck on sought of behind the larger pulley but there was bits of belt stuck behind both pulleys.

Any idea why this would happen? Loose belt etc?
Tried to turn the alternator pulley by hand and it's pretty hard to turn. Should it turn freely?

I may just be freaking out about this bit but the fuel pressure also seemed a bit lower. Around 3.5 on the gauge at 50kph/30mph. Is this right?

Alternator pulley should turn freely indeed, so seems there is something wrong in that department.

I guess a seized alternator pulley is better than the crank pulley being out of whack. I was staring to worry about my other belts going. Especially the timing!!!

Anyone know a good source for rs2 alternators?

        Anyone bought from tots parts?
rs2 alternator listed for about 130gbp.
Seems rather cheap but I can't find the part number or brand. Says it's 120A unit.

Over here it's easy to get parts like that reconditioned, isn't it an option over there?

I'll check it out but the housing is cracked as well had it tested and it charges fine. Might just buy a new one for peace of mind.

              Cracked housing as well

Don't know if it is the same as an ABY alternator? If yes, more than likely that someone on here can help you out for less than tots.

Which part of the housing is cracked? I've got half of one here you can have for free if it helps?
Otherwise its quite a common Bosch alternator, as above same as the AAN engine with a different pulley on.

Thanks a lot everyone and thanks error404 for the offer of the housing. I'm pretty sure it's just the front 1/2 but i will have a better look tomorrow.

Where would I find the alternator and pulley for sale if I was to do a swap on an AAN alternator?

                      Cheers

The pulley may be okay but it is very hard to turn by hand. I think that's the reason the belt snapped. I need to pull it off and investigate further.

Yes but that's the bearing or something else

It looks as though the alternator can be rebuilt. The guy that fixes them says the cracked housing has put the pulley/bearing out of alignment causing it to seize. Pulley is fine but I need a new front housing.
