    Ke-Motronic help required

    Afternoon people

Just picked up a 93 2.0 16v Coupe. It's got a running issue (lumpy idle, hesitation at low revs etc) that my mechanic and I have narrowed down to the fuel metering head. I've got a second hand replacement on the way, so fingers crossed replacing the metering head will sort it.

But...! If it doesn't, and the replacement unit is also duff, can anyone recommend a specialist that offers a reconditioning service on the Motronic units? Or indeed somewhere good with 6a/ACE cars? No disrespect to my mechanic, he's good at what he does, but I get the impression he doesn't have too much experience with this kind of setup!

    Thanks in advance!

Hi mate, yeah that'll be me!

Fingers crossed it does the trick. Right pain in the neck being off the road when I've just bought it, just want to get it mobile so I can get to work on all the stuff I've got planned!

The sooner you send it the better

Do you or your mechanic have the factory manual for 6a/ace ke-motronic available to you?

Quick update - the new motronic head has certainly helped, but things are still not right. Just given C & R a ring in Nottingham a ring hoping to get it booked in with Steve Cresswell as his name keeps popping up as the man for this kind of thing, but he's unavailable for a few weeks!

Is he on here by the way? Goes by the name of 'crasher' on a lot of forums.

Anyway, really need an alternative, someone who really knows the old VAG four cylinder jetronic/motronic engines. Based south yorks / midlands.

                    Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!

Does it drive ok when giving it decent throttle? If it does it might be the lambda that's knackered?

Lambda was recently replaced by the previous owner. Drives well at higher revs at wot. Badly at idle up to around 2500. Which does sound like lambda strangely.

Only other person I know of who is an 'expert' with these would be Vince at Stealth Racing. Which is miles away from me. But if it means paying to get it trailered down I might just end up doing that.

Is the lambda genuine bosch with connectors or some replacement cut and solder job? I had problems until I went with genuine bosch unit. Have you tried removing the lambda connector, does it change how it runs? Have you checked the ignition timing? It needs to be in certain limits to work ok.

have you pulled any fault codes from the car as yet. Steve Cresswell knows his stuff he used to write the technical section in Golf+. i probably have some literature about these engines and set up etc. As with the K Jets 16 valve golfs a good set up by someone that knows them well works wonders. I used to get loads of 16 golfs come to me running like s**t and half hours with a timing light and a gas tester and they were purring. Pull the codes Ill see what i can find out.

Yep, I know all about Steve, but like I say he's not available for a good few weeks - spoke to Roy at C&R earlier today. Also spoke to Vince at Stealth, and yes, while the kr is his thing, motronic seems to have a 'difficult' reputation.

Got a provisinal date booked in with him anyway.

                              Jari

Last owner claimed to have changed lambda. Will get a new bosch unit ordered just in case. Mech says he turns it over and it 'runs lovely', then again and it's like a dog. Guess that's more lambda than ecu. Although the other motronic metering head has helped...?

Codes: camshaft position sensor. Mech says 'loose sensor, looks like a knock sensor' and 'ht lead taped up'. Hmm. Would that code mean hall sensor in dizzy or sensor on lead 4? Any photos of how sensor should be seated?

                              Thanks for the help people!!
