    Cams for RS2 setup

Covered a few times in the past but just thought I'd see what the latest opinion was - are RS2 exhaust cam and pully prefereable on an RS2 turbo to ABY cam & pulley, or is there little difference or a negative difference? FWIR, RS2 exh cam & pulley give more mid range but less top... is this correct?

    Yes that's right.

My combo of RS2 exhaust cam with kx500 seemed to be too much and just caused surge, with 7A it's fine.

The RS2 turbo runs out of puff at the top-end anyway and the turbo + cam setup is what gave the RS2 it's legendary torque and 0-30 quicker than the McLaren F1

I wouldn't bother around these power levels messing between the two, had both but I only noticed really world difference when messing with the inlet cam ( 7a or NM ).

        +1

        Used 3b intake & exhaust vs 3b intake & 7A exhaust and I didn't notice any difference.

Yes, was with RS2 turbo setup

I have a 7A inlet but have never fitted it as the timing is a bit retarded. Could always run an adjustable pulley on it?

WhenI had 7a it was more laggy in that it felt harder to rev but when it hit the sweet spot it was like a rocket

Terrybullwon had his 7a machine to get the lag back but only he knows the spec.

I've got a billet RS2 turbo (with cutback wheel and 360 bearing) from VRS - any suggestions on what cams I should be running with it? Currently AAN in there (it's an S6), but have 7a inlet and exhaust available.

                Hi,
I am also installing stock RS2 turbo to my 3B engine. I have RS2 cams and 3B cams. I already know that with RS2 cams you need to RS2 waterpump, RS2 cam belt and RS2 cam sprocket. In RS2 cam sprocket timing mark is half tooth off from valve cover mark.

Has anyone tried to use RS2 cams (exhaust + intake) with 3B/AAN/ABY cam sprocket, so timing mark will align correctly with valve cover mark? How half tooth difference with RS2 cams aligment affects power and turbo lag?

Another question is that if I decide to use 3B cams with stock RS2 turbo, do I lose some low end torque or power?

You don't need the rs2 waterpump, cambelt and cam sprocket

the cam sprocket does not change the timing marks it moves the hall sensor window, but as you have a 3b this is irrelevant.

The other issue you will have is you'd need to push a dizzy drive wheel on the RS2 exhaust cam.

Uh, Distributor drive off the intake camshaft.

Often wondered what effect fitting both in and ex 7a cams would do on smaller turbo engines, I'm guessing it would help reduce surge due to the overlap but introduce lag.

Yeah, there's a few things you can do with cam sprockets to alter the timing, getting them machined etc. but it's really a ball ache, just fit and forget imo with cams

My 3B head is modified, it has hall sensor bracket in front just like in ABY/AAN head, so I can install AAN/ABY hall sensor. Reason for this modification was to get rid of oil leaking dizzy. I am going to do pin swap and install ADU ecu with 2.5tfsi coilpack. Injectors are from RS2. Now the only problem is to choose suitable cams for my setup.

AFAIK RS2 intake cam is same as 3B/ABY/AAN intake cam (so I could use my dizzy with 3B cam). RS2 exchaust cam is different. RS2 cam sprocket is also same as in ABY/AAN except in RS2 sprocket hall window is in little bit different position. This is because in RS2 timing mark doesn't align same as in 3B/ABY/AAN it is half tooth off, so it need different hall window in sprocket. I was thinking what happens if I install RS2 cams and align cam sprocket same way as in 3B/ABY/AAN? Or should I buy adjustable cam sprocket to get aligment same as in RS2?

Basically I just want the best street setup with RS2 turbo, not necessarily max power.

Might try fitting them at some point and try back to back on my GTech.
