  • just finished a baffle on aan sump.

I have been experiencing the motor oil splitting in the catch can with a few hard launches.I got a few comments from V6Quattro,Quattro-nick and Thuppu(Tomas).
I decided to build one for my sump.i got Tomas's as my prototype since the baffle
covered most of the rear area of sump.one comment is do i need to put small plate
of Aluminium sheet on the stock baffle like in the photo to prevent the motor oil
get passed to the breather hose on the block?necessary?

    here's my baffle.

the baffle plate works good for my engine because my oilpressure problems are solved and i have totally no oil in cath can, only condensation
p.s. that little alu plate on breather hole sits on my custom baffle plate, not on the origional AAN baffle
i have used both baffles, origional and custom
    good luck with yours

Thanks Nick! this morning I'm just adding the small
baffle on the last slot(to prevent oil surged through the
breather port)what do you think mate?what's the purpose
of cutting /drilling the vent on your baffle ?

Is that an old stereo cage?

Did you not have the windage tray in there? Looks very similar idea to that. Have a search for other sump baffle efforts, as they tend to focus on the oil pickup area and changing the surge around that point.

Rusty, that doesn't help on the problem that oil is forced up in the breather back of the block, in hard launches. Stock windage tray is on the other side than the block breather outlet.

          Pop, that looks very functional.

the openings on my baffleplate serve to bring back the oil as quickly as possible to the sump
if you can see they are in line with the connectingrods so when the engine is running swings the oil directly to the openings
they are also on a origional 7A windtray
i'm sorry but i think your little baffleplate has no use at all because if you can see on my custom baffle i made a breatherhole on the same place as the engineblock thats why i put that little baffle for it to prevent oil in crankcaseventilation
on the third picture you see that breatherhole right below
i think your bigger baffle will do the job

Andy,Indeed it's the stereo cage!My friend was asking me if that's OEM parts and i said
                yes,it's OEM from.... Alpine lol.

I also retained the stock windage tray plus those baffles.

Thanks mate,What do you think if i just leave that small rectangular baffle in there?
Do i need to drill opening the big baffle for draining the motor oil back?

you may leave that small rectangular baffle in there
many people make a custom baffle plate like yours without the gaps so i would leave it like that

                        on my baffles too.
