    My Coupe has died! Help!

I took my 3B, recently converted to ABY 5 coil, coupe out for a shake down tonight and it's now parked a couple of miles away on the other side of the village. It started and ran ok from cold, stalled at the end of the road but re-started fine, seemed to be holding back a bit the misfired badly a couple of times with a bang out the exhaust. Then coming up to a roundabout it died completely. I managed to coast to a safe spot, no restart. stuck a key up an HT lead, no spark. l Got a lift home and went back with the laptop, Vagcom can't find the controller.

So it seems the ECU might be dead, any clues as to where to start? I've checked all my new wiring and it doesn't look like any pins have got pushed back in the ECU plug.

Was hoping to maybe get to AITP..

If you converted to coils, is there some resistor modification required in the ECU I read somewhere.

Check your motor fuses and the others that run along the edge of the under bonnet fuse box.

Can you hear your ECU click on and off with ignition?

I have been running coil packs since I "invented" the conversion in 2005. No resistor change. No major issues. Newsh needs to look elsewhere, e.g. grounds for the coil pack harness, etc.

You didn't invent the conversion globally because I'd seen it done pre 2005 in europe - what a claim!

Seems a mix up between 3b to aby (pin swap) conversion and aby/aan coil conversion has occured in this thread.

Newsh wakes up at 5.30am thinking about ECU ground wires under the inlet manifold
Thanks for replies lads, I'm sure it's something intermittent..The fact that it would run ok for a few seconds but then hold back or misfire and then stall on braking, points to a bad connection which has now failed. I'm going with coil pack or ECU grounds. In fact did I actually bolt the ECU grounds back to the IM??
Think I'm going up the road in a bit with an Allen key to have a look.
Brian, RS2 software needs a resistor change in the ecu iirc.

Sorry to hear about the coupe John. Its probably a loose connection somewhere.
              Hope you can sort it

It was the ECU ground wires under the IM, I forgot to tighten the bolt.

It's still not running right which is dissapointing but it starts and drives so I could get it home.

                    Schoolboy error

It now runs perfectly at zero on the boost gauge, doesn't idle well and doesn't run well on boost. So it's time to pressure test again.

I have a leak from the throttle butterfly pivot (I've always had this but it seems worse now than last time I tested) but I think there must be another leak, cos the pressure drops really quickly.

Holds one bar pretty well on the boost leak test, got to be something else
