    00533 - Idle / 00561 Mixture - RS2

    Hi everybody,

I am fitting mine RS2, and I got the knowed 00561 Fault.

See below the VAG Faulty Report:

    VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N

    Control Module Part Number: 8A0 907 551 C
    Component and/or Version: 2,2l R5 MOTR.RHV RS2D01
    Software Coding: PMC 4
    Work Shop Code:
    4 Faults Found:
    00533 - Idle Speed Regulation
10-00 - Adaptation Limit Not Reached
    00561 - Mixture Adaptation
14-00 - Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded
    00561 - Mixture Adaptation
13-00 - Adaptation Limit (Mul) Not Reached
    00513 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
    03-00 - No Signal

    Considerations:
    > My MAF is a brand new and original one.
    > Idle is very fine and stable.
    > My car appears lazy when cold. And when is hot, for sure there is loss of power.
    > Some times it hesitate when under load.
    > I have some after explosion on exaust system, when decelerating on 2nd, and 3rd gears, with TPS closed.
    > High fuel consumtion (about 20liters/100km)
    > There is no cats.

May this problem related from the Lambda Probe?
I have a Lambda Probe from a S2 ABY (078906265A) as spare part. May I test this lambda Probe on my RS2? The PN from a RS2 Lambda Probe is 077906265.
Anyone knows the differences between them? What should I expect?

On my opinion both codes 00533 and 00561 are from the same reason.

    Cheers,

If it is not a boost leak and since you have a new maf then try the lamda. No real differences between the 2 part numbers. It should work. If the problem is not fixed then search for a boost leak

      Hi,

      First of all... original eproms?

Second, 078906265A is lambda of AAH and AFM engines (6 cylinders).

        Dear Guslotti,

        Yes, original eproms.
And the lambda 078906265A is also used for ABY engine (S2).

I hope to test this lambda probe on my car today.

        Cheers,

Lambda 078906265A is not used on ABY and ADU engines. This lambda according ETKA is only used in AFM and AAH engines (V6 engines).

ABY and ADU use the same lambda (077906265) and some AAN 5 cylinder engines with no cat use 053 906 265 lambda.

I believe that your problem is not related lambda. Check before other parts:
          - MAF number and poor contact
          - Throttle valve potentiometer (Defect or wrong position)
          - Air leak
          - Check fuel pressure

          Regards,

            Hi Guslotti,

            You are right!
According to VAGCAT.com, for ADU engines, also can use lambda probe 053906265.

So, last night I made a test changing the original Lambda Probe (053906265 - it has a short cable) for the 078906265A.
And I can say that the car is much better under load and at cold.

I thought that both faults (0533 and 0561) could be solved, but when I arrived from the ride, checked again and those fails are still there.

As I got a fault on idle, I will check the TPS position for Idle. I suspect that TPS is not totaly closed. And may be the main reason for the fault code.

            Cheers,

              Hi Rafael,

As I suspected your problem is not related lambda, and use a wrong lambda in a test is totally pointless.

I believe that your lambda is not 053906265. Your lambda is the same as ABY and AAN engines (077906265).

Do you have ELSA or know someone that has? There is in ELSA an instruction to setup the TPS. If you don’t have I can send a print to you.

I believe that your problem is related MAF… maybe a simple poor contact. VAG 5051 or Ross Tech software don’t get poor contact, you need to turn off the connector for some time to get the fault code.

Are you sure that your MAF is correct? ADU and ABY have different MAF. It’s hard the possibility to be wrong but at this point it is important check everything.

A logical steps for me are:

              Return correct lambda
              Check MAF code number
              Check TPS and TPS position
              Check idle valve control
              Check all connectors (poor contact)

Do you have this car for a long time with no problem or you bought this car recently with this fault codes?

              Best regards,

I run a standard single wire (non heated) one on mine. Works perfectly fine.
I can tell from the wideband that it takes slightly longer to rech operating temp and start the lambda regulation, but we are talking only a few seconds.

                  Best regards,

                  Hi Gualotti,

I really do not understand the difference between those lambda probe. Usually they return a signal in voltage that means how is the mixing between air and gasoline. On my opinion should have differences on pre-heat, assembly screw, cable length,... That is why you can run with a stock lambda probe.

On my ride I verified that the lambda is not the main reason for those faults codes. By the way it makes the car much better under load.

I am betting on TPS... So it will be very kind if you can share some pictures how to correct setup the TPS sensor.

About the car, I bought it recently, so I am discovering its issues and expect to solve them.

About bad contact at MAF, I have already cleaned them and reconnected, without any changes.... Any other idea?
My MAF for sure is correct.... I have already checked.

                  Cheers,

At first lambda probe are very similar, but only with a datasheet to compare in detail. The fact is that Audi used this Bosch lambda in a very few engines during this time. I have no idea why.
The point is that using original parts and preferably new parts it’s easier to solve fault codes.
If your car is more than 100.000km maybe is time to replace lambda too.
Check air/boost leak, TPS sensor and TPS position, fuel pressure and injectors leaking.

I second that. High fuel consumption was mentioned. No one mentioned checking the coolant temp sensor. Get the engine up to 90c, then measure the resistance of the sensor. You can find the values at SJM. Should be low resistance. Like 60ohm IIRC. Not in the 1000-2000 range, which for cold engine.

Another thing to test is vacuum hose leaks. If the ADU is anything like the AAN, there is a little rubber T piece under the intake manifold. If that is cracked, it will leak in air.
Also, the ISV valve might leak under boost.

                          Done!
It was the mechanical throttle position that was wrong.

The ISV valve was totally closed and it gave wrong signal of lambda... Like an air leak.

                          Thanks a lot!
