    Engine Bay Device Maps

As you might know, I have an Engine Bay Device Map that uses an image of the AAN engine bay that links out to info about all the devices used by the AAN (and, as it happens, the ABY and ADU and, most of the 3B (with obvious ignition differences). The posts that are linked were developed initially for the AAN but have been subsequently improved to include the pertinent ABY, ADU and 3B info, as needed.

The live map is here: http://members.shaw.ca/speedtek/UrS%...ice%20Map.html

The non-live AAN base Engine Bay Device Map looks like that below. The full Engine Bay Device Map with more info that just what the label supports is found here:

    The Audi Enthusiast website. Forums for all Audis including A4, S4, A5, S5, A6, S6, allroad, A8, S8, TT, R8, Q5, Q7, 4000, 100, 200, v6, v8, vintage, local forums

I have been asked by Paul Nugent whether he could use my idea to develop a 3B/ABY/ADU map, presumably based on one of these diagrams:

I obviously can't say no. I am just wondering if a 3B or ABY/ADU map is really needed given that my "AAN" map includes 3B, ABY and ADU info. It's a lot of work. Not sure what info Paul would link out to, mine or his, or both (I have links to some of his info in some of my info posts)

    You guys decide.

Thanks Dave... I wasn't asking you to do any work - just to let me re-use that idea with an interactive engine bay map... actually with those Audi factory manual JPGs on 12V.org already it shouldn't be too much pain to do something dead simple first of all that follows the numbers to links that land on S2central or elsewhere. Beyond that, its conceivable to add some CSS code or whatever that pops up links as users rollover the items dynamically.

The main reason for doing 3B and ABY/ADU specific ones is partly because wire colours are almost all different on the AAN, and a few things are in the wrong place too.

Eventually it should form part of an updated Technical FAQ on S2Forum which everyone should be directed to before opening up so many common questions on the tech forums.

Don't worry. I wasn't thinking you were asking me for anything other than my "blessing" (or whatever) to proceed.

      A bit of background:

I started the original UrS4/S6 FAQ on Audiworld back in 2004 or 05 because I was tired of repeating the answer(s) to the same question(s) over and over. When Audiworld converted from kawf bulletin board format to vBulletin format in March 2009, the AW FAQ blew up. Any additions to it bumped the whole thing to the front of the forum (BTW: I had strongly suggested that the Audiworld administrators use the S2Forum format as their template. But they knew "better" and ignored my advice (to this day, the AW format sucks the big one - the S2Forum format is vastly superior).

Anyway, back to the plot....within two days in March 2009 some enterprising folks had cloned the old Audiworld kawf format and the result was called "quattroworld". At that point, I did not have the heart or energy to rebuild the FAQ since it required completely new info posts. Others started the FAQ anyway. By December 2009, I decided to start contributing again - except I decided to do my thing as an Engine Bay Device Map with links to the devices that the AAN ECU uses to make things work. Initially it was just the manual version but with some outside help (Jeff M., aka "speedtek"), the live link version was created - based on the limited labels in the manual AAN Engine Bay Device Map. Subsequently, I have developed an UrS System and Chassis Map (both manual and live label versions) to deal with the other UrS systems, e.g. power steering, brakes, heater cores, etc.

Anyway, yes there are some 3B/ABY/ADU differences that I have not included in my info posts, particularly, as you suggest, wiring colours. That was always best done at S2Central.net (your site).

Maybe people will better appreciate the info if it comes from you and S2Central.net instead of being directed to my quattroworld posts (not withstanding the fact that I have done long info posts here too, specific to the 3B and ABY/ADU, e.g. boost leak testing)). However, don't get too frustrated if they ignore your linked info posts because nobody wants to read something for more than about 30 seconds before their technology-induced ADHD kicks in and they get bored and just want their answer, not a bunch of knowledge.

      So good luck.

The posts there are really useful and informative. Providing a way to search these along with the s2forum is an idea I'd like to experiment with so that the info is more accessible
