    ok to update:

Paul I tried that yesterday and made no difference

So conveniently Tristan aka merlins4 has very kindly lent me a spare loom and 1.8t coil kit, plugged it in and quel surprise it works a treat

So looks like on this occasion I will be going loom+coil conversion.......

    What more can I say............

Thank you yet again to the kind folk who love to help on here.

Oddly enough my oil pressure gauge on the dash has thrown a wobbly going off the scale, had this before and it was an earthing issue so will now need to look into that, it never ends

Grounds are definitely important but it might not be your issue.

Did you mean the diagram below (that I created for the AAN, ABY and ADU based on various wiring diagrams), available here:

The reason that running a work-around ground didn't improve anything was because the issue was not the ground as you have now proven when you plugged in MerlinS4's 1.8 coilpack kit to the OE harness and power plugs and Eureka we have lift off Houston.

Problem is elsewhere, downstream of the OE harness, likely in your coil wiring OR the POSs (you can try the 12V V6 brown POSs as substitutes for the short term).

BTW - good grounds are absolutely crucial for the COP/POS wiring... if that POS doesn't have a good solid earth then the primary current flows are going to be impaired or stopped.

Saturday night update : and not a great one!

Boost test last night with a mate and we found the intercooler was leaking so today got it repaired and refitted.
                        (Pressure tested too)
Slightly better but still an annoying misfire on wot. You can drive through it all the way to 1.7 bar , lift off and it goes.
I have recently borrowed 1.8 t coilpacks with loom, plugs are 2 months old.
I'm thinking lambda, plug gone down.

                        Any suggestions ?

Could be a dodgy 1.8T coilpack acting up at WOT.

I was under the impression they tend not to do that, thought once they start acting up they go completely ? Even on idle .They are fairly old, anyway to test?

                            Thanks again

Pull the plugs and compare colours. I know one of mine was obviously running differently. You gen get a coil tester too, the gap style ones aren't expensive.

Plugs pulled out and all slightly sooty but number 2 particularly bad. Interestingly the boot on the coil pack looks like it's seen better days too
