S6 wont start

The battery on my s6 was to low to start the car. So I jumped it and it started straight away so I left it running for a for a while. When I came to check it had stopped running.
Battery still wouldn't turn the car over so I plug the charger in and left it to charge up.
When I tried to start it fired up for a few seconds then coughed and died. now it wont start no life at all. The battery is quite new, and it has fuel. I don't think its the hall sender as it fired up for a while, plus I have replaced this some time ago.
Any Ideas would be much appreciated. as I have two cars with problems now.

Thanks for that Dave, interesting read. My suspicions are fuel. Possibly fuel pump. It behaved like it was running out of fuel. I have no idea where the fuel pump is or how to check it.

I have 12v to the fuel pump, but I cannot hear it running, so I assume that its the pump that's failed. I have one from my s2 coupe can I use this I wonder.

The pump will only run when you're cranking the engine over.

Before you go there, PLEASE USE the information that I provided above to test your UrS6 fuel pump in-situ by applying 12V to the downstream side of the No. 17 fuse holder, etc.

I think there were two varieties of S2 pump so it wouldn't necessarily work. The one you want looks like this:

I know this will sound stupid but have you got all the fuses under the passenger footwell my brothers died and found a fuse under there that had popped...
it was a dodgey coil pack that kept blowing it..

Yup and yup. As the AAN (or ABY or ADU) wiring gets old and brittle the insulation on the 12V power wires to the OE coils starts to flake off, especially if the 20V Turbo plate and attached coils are removed several times to access sparkplugs, etc. IF the bare 12V coil power wire shorts on the cam cover, the coil power fuse (the one in the yellow fuse holder) blows, killing the engine until the wiring is fixed and the fuse replaced.

Where is the best place to by a new fuel pump. I just got quoted over £200
There are several on eBay for a lot less ,but I assume they are aftermarket . Has anyone used an aftermarket pump on there car.
The pump I took out was a vdo which I think is made buy Siemens, part no A8O 906 091G .There are a couple of other no's 13794 ,and 3181.

You *might* want to monitor that dyslexia. No such part number "A8O 906 091G". 4B0906091G is closer but still no cigars.

The proper PN is 8A0906091G.

In to much Hurry probably. And yes I am slightly dyslexic. And yes I do monitor it.

I often swap numbers writing down phone numbers for no good (diagnosed) reason, so yes, we all have a problem of some sort. Sorry to give you the gears (agro) on the part number.
