    Boost cuts with Tesco 99...

Had recently thought I'd cured the random boost cuts with the S2 after changing a few parts. This happened to coincide with using other fuel for a change, Esso, Shell and BP super unleaded. Filled up with Tesco 99 today and the first WOT after 5 mins in traffic and I had a boost cut...

So seems rather odd, considering that 99 is supposed to be good stuff?! I'll do more testing when I've got through this tank and see if it goes away just to be sure of the cause.

Has anyone else found similar with Tesco 99? I know their other fuels are a bit dodgy but thought the 99 was a safe bet...

I just filled up at the weekend with tesco 99 for the first time in the S2 because I had a 14p off per litre with my clubcard. I drove it all weekend and it didn't miss a beat. I was giving it some stick too. I usually use Shell exclusively but I can't say that I've noticed a decrease in performance. Mine is pretty much standard with just a Milltek and a homefries chip though.

I always put super unleaded in from my local in Bloxham and never had issues. I was forced to use Esso the other day though and immediately had issues over 4000rpm. Quick unplug and reset of MAF connector and all was sorted. My initial thought was fuel too but ovvo was not the case.

What was more annoying was some guy behind me in a newish S3 with his girlfriend in the passenger seat who clearly wanted to show off. I could keep him behind me but the annoying boost cuts meant I could not leave him behind. More than annoying.

It had behaved perfectly for over a year and then suddenly a small issue (nowhere near as harsh as previous time) Little wiggle and all perfect again.

The pins look perfect aligned and in good condition. Anyhow, sorry to go off topic a little

Hope you get your cuts sorted out Colesy and it is something simple. More than likely the fuel theory is just a coincidence in my opinion. Most likely something else annoying.

Looks like it was the MAF connector again, I really should buy a new plug and contacts. Has anyone done this? Does it fix the problem?

So it's back to running like a demon again, for now. Cheers for all the replies.

This always seems to happen to me. Either the S2 is playing up or I'm driving the girlfriends A3...

If you take the pins out of the connector one at a time and clean them with 1000 grit wet and dry as per my MAF connector thread, it sorts it, at least with mine it's been ok for a few years now

Be gentle though they are gold plated (no, really)! You'll be surprised how much muck comes off them even if they look new. Then use some dielectric grease to protect them.

When ever I take an electrical plug off mine, I give it a quick squirt with this sruff:-
