    Found On Roadside Dead

Heading home yesterday after a 80 mile drive in the middle of nowhere s2 drops power, I suspected fuel so pulled over then and there. Petrol station was 100 yards so got a gallon and put it in.
No start, got towed into a mate of mine.

Pulled 00515 camshaft position sensor g40 short to positive.

I swapped my ecu for another to verify, after that swapping the cps for another second hand one I got
00515 camshaft position sensor short to earth.

So far i havent got even a cracle out of it since it went funny, it didnt tow start either.

    Any ideas?

Strangely, I would start by replacing the camshaft position sensor...

Have you tried messing with the connector to the cam sensor ?
It's not going to start without the G40 input as the ECU does not no
what stroke the engine is on, it will not open the injectors until it gets correct G40 signal.

          Don't try to start it!

Check the timing marks before you bend your valves, most likely belt slipped a tooth if two sensors with different codes!

What would be causing two sensors to throw different codes?

                  The timing marks look fine.

Sounds like it could be a broken wiring loom to me as you have short to pos and then short to earth.
pull the connector of the cam sensor and ECU and run a continuity test from pin to pin and from pins to earth etc.

                    http://www.s2central.net/motronic_pinout_ABY.html this will help

does anyone have any resistance values to check the cam sensor for?

Update, now shows a code that say g40 cam sensor static- mechanical malfunction...I put a scope on pin 8 and i have a cam sensor signal going to the ecu when trying to start, I checked the crank reference signal and crank speed sensor (pin 47 and 49 if memory serves) also and found what look like pertinent signals. I used pin 19 for ground in all three readings. I have approximate figures for these which I will put up later. Is there anything else which can trigger this error? for example the vehicle speed sensor error which is evident while you scan with the engine off? Any ideas? I have put 2 different cam sensors on and they work fine when tested for a reading .
