Was that cam ever dropped on a concrete floor? Looks like a brittle failure.

Looks like a 3B or 7A cam based on this:

3B on the left, early AAN on the right.

Its quite possible they could have been dropped, I've only owned them for a few years.

The only other thing I can think of is vibration from high revs. The engine usually see's 7800 quite regularly.

It's common. I've never seen one fail without a distributor attached though, so that's interesting.
Check your cam caps for tightness.

mine went like that between 3 and 4. 7a cam? mine was

My mates stock 7A snapped its exhaust cam between cylinders 4 and 5. Bit of a weird one to diagnose.
