    rs2 engine block. any difference?

Does the rs2 engine block have any differences to an aby/aan block? Any distinguishing marks etc? Or are they identical to other blocks? Been offered an rs2 block just wondered if a its any different and b a way of making sure it is what it says it is?

As far as I can tell the only way of identifying an adu engine is that ot has adu stamped into the head. How come the block doesnt have engine number stamped on it?

I also have another block which has some damage to one of the bores. Its only on one cylinder and about half way up the bore there is a dent in the piston wall. Looks like the piston skirt has been eating into the bore. Measure the bore and the dent is approx 0.5mm deep.

What would cause this wear on one cylinder? And I assume the bore could be opened out by 1mm or so to get rid of the wear and then use oversize pistons. What size are oversize pistons and what cc do they give.

Other option is to sleeve the block and re use the pistons if they are ok. This would certainly be cheaper. And stock pistons are fine for more power. How much material is removed and what thickness are the sleeves? Is it advisable just to sleeve one or two cylinders or do you do them all?

What are the maximum bore wear tolerances to use stock pistons?

I have a very good totally crack free head which is a bonus! Just deciding what to do with this damaged block.

    Many thanks

All the same then? Literally no difference at all even castings etc?

Why on earth do people want to pay more for adu engines when they are identical, block has no numbers on it, and the only difference in the head is the number stamped on the side lol.

If u put rs2 water pump, exhaust cam and pulley onto an aan/aby then u have an adu engine.

Any info on sleeving or overboring appriciated.

Kind of. Originally the ADUs had uprated rod bearings compared to the AAN and ABY. However, as time past, all the replacment rod bearings were the RS2 bearings. The RS2 oil pump was different (EDIT: AAR inline 5 oil pump). But all these are bolt-ons to the block.

The ADU in the RS2 originally used the 054115105D oil pump from the AAR 10V five cylinder gasoline engine instead of the more common 054115105E that the AAN and ABY use. However, the 054115105D was dropped on Jan.11, 2002 in favour of the AAN/ABY oil pump (the 054115105E). The 3B (and NM and 7A) use a 034115105B oil pump.

I lied about the diesel. (Forgot that I finally figured out that the AAR was an inline-five gas engine, *NOT* a diesel). Presumably Porsche thought that the ABY (also AAN) oil pump wasn't up to the the task but the AAR pump was (more flow? more pressure? - don't know).

AAN has a couple of extra tapped holes for its p/s pump bracket iirc.

There are a few bolt on differences in the water system but ultimately, there's no differences worth the effort of paying for an ADU. A complete RS2 engine with cams, turbo, ECU etc. etc. Is desirable as it saves £1500+ converting to RS2...

AAR is 2.3L I5 Gasoline motor on 100/A6 and sharing the Crankshaft with ADU/AAN/ABY.

btw what sort of money is a bottom end worth in need of rebore/sleeving. would include oil pump/crank/pistons and rods. needs a rebore or sleeving as 1 cylinder had a broken piston ring and has eaten into bore by 0.5mm one side. pistons/rods/crank all good.

also value of a good aby uncracked head. includes valves/buckets/caps. also got a pair of aby cams

just trying to weigh up my options here

                              regards
