I have a question, is it possible, to remap a 100% standard RS2, and get such a high torque that the rods will bend?
RS2 remap - will it bend the rods ?

Not sure what dmitri would say but I think the answer is if try hard and F*K the re-map up real good, sure, you can bend rods. Is this one of your goals for 2015, to bend rods?

Otherwise, most competent tuners-remappers have figured out how to avoid that issue a long time ago.

Good one
Well I have some rods collecting dust and a friend from the forum suggested to put them in my engine so I can be stress free.
And I told him it's money out the window as I am not planning on going past the RS2 stage one setup.
He said there were cases of bent rods. But I have been on this forum for a while, and never heard of stage 1 RS2 setup with bent rods?

I am not sure what an RS2 Stage 1 is.
With the AAN and ABYs, Stage 1 was a chip set with the stock 250 kPa MAP sensor to take the hp from 227 SAE hp to around 260 SAE.
Stage 2 for the AAN and ABY was a 300 kPa (3 Bar) MAP sensor, stock injectors and a chip set to get to around 280 SAE hp.
Stage 3 for the AAN and ABY is/was a 300 kPA Map sensor, RS2 exhaust manifold, RS2 injectors, RS2 MAF and RS2 turbo, with a chip set go for 350 to 380 hp, depending on the tuner (MRC = around 350/360 hp). Stock rods are fine for this.
I suspect that an RS2 "Stage 1" is that same chip set (okay slightly different due to the 3.8 Bar RS2 fuel pressure regulator), so 350/360 reliable hp (or 380 pushing the envelope hp).
Remember "He who pushes the envelope, should not be surprized when he gets a paper cut".

Well the problem is the torque not the hp.
Standard rods take up to 500nm of torque so the question is: how much torque does the rs2 stage 1 remap does ( the one with 360-380 hp).Comment

i believe stock bottom end is holding up fine 500-550NM.I have my 2871 dyno'd and got over 500NM.one of a few I5 from Asia.Comment

MRC (Doug) has mapped my RS2 .... 370 brake 565NM and it's been running this for over 2 years.
Certainly the top end of what is possible from a stock engine so he said.
fyi - de-catted, custom 3" turbo back exhaust, single box and this made a HUGE difference even before the map.RS2

I'm pretty sure the number I have heards is around 125Nm per rod (mk 2 golf guys) which would be 625Nm on S2.
Also I'm sure that the bend rods was on 3B with the rotorarm and due to pre ignition. Never heards of bend rods on RS2 setup with multi coil setup.Comment

RS2 turbo can produce a lot of torque so I would say yes it is possible but I would think you'd need to push the turbo hard to do it and not sure the RS2 injectors would give you enough fuel to do that so a good conservative map is safe as proven by MRC, PRJ etc etc

I've been running the TS Tuning chips on a stock ABY block and done track days with it. No problems in 3 years, so I'd say you'll be OK with a good generic map. Sure, if you run custom map with a big WG spring and as much boost as it'll run, you'll be in danger. Many of the issues are also associated with the distributor on the 3B, so with an ADU running good coils, again, you'll be fine.Cheers'en, AndyC

Cool. Well like I said, the engine is completely stock.
No other mods.
We are just refreshing it.Comment

I think most have not read the questions "I have a question, is it possible, to remap a 100% standard RS2, and get such a high torque that the rods will bend?"
Is it possible being key, yes it is very possible to do this with an RS2 turbo if you push it. Most generics won't as they dont go above 1.6-1.7 barComment
